Any Advice For Aggresive Gsd

SkyeGSD:

You are not the only one who has had this problem with the GSD club - 4 out of a class of 7 have pulled out for exactly the same reason. Think it is really sad as 80% of GSD puppies are sold as pets and we all want the best for our dogs. After all, how your dog behaves in public is the best advertisement for your breed (any breed) so I cannot understand the inability to supply this to the owners who want a well-trained dog but not neccessarily enter the obedience ring.

IMO GSD pet owners would be better served training and socialising their dogs/puppies at an Allbreeds club and in particular around smaller dogs.

There will be someone from WA on here who can recommend a qualified behaviorist that deals with aggression.

Maybe sell the E collar to get the money?

That would be great i live in the Armadale area, any suggestions please.

You could put it on Ebay, or one of the free online classifieds like Gumtree?

Beagie thank you for reply and information, i will look into the book, but i im thinking im gonna have to find the money some how and find a behaviourist, even if it takes me a few months to save for it.

thank you and good luck with your quest I do hope the dog settles for you, I have never had agressive dogs but then I train a lot and have been doing so

for sixty years, I also have all intact males they all get along beautifully, not without a lot of work on my part. Especialy with my new pup LOL no more

pups for me to much hard work I am past it.

Dogs that are agressive towards other dogs in my local club all wear red bandanas to indicate to the rest of the club give them space. I do not attend

this club, the only club I do attend is for a reason it is where most trials are held, and my pup needs to learn to deal with that ground and all the other

dogs around him, we have a saying we all have UD dogs in the back yard. I remember when I got my beautiful boy now ten everyone screamed those

dogs are killers, he is the biggest sook going, just different handling. I did not mean to confuse you or give incorrect advice, I gues when you have been

handling dogs as long as I have and yes I have trained GSD's for other people, they are so smart, you think along the lines that you are dealing with

them a big mistake, I also only indicated your breed club as even if the trainers are volunteers, they have been handling GSD's all their lives and have

a pretty good understanding of them. oh well never mind all the best in getting your girls settled Beagie

Thank you all, any recommendations from anyone who has used a behaviouist in wa please? and how much did it cost you?

I did take my puppy to gsd club to the reactive class, but because she was not a purebreed they looked down thier noses at us and just kept telling me i was ripped off, chatting to the others and telling them made me feel very stupid and bad.

im afraid i would never go back there.

See that doesn't make sense to me.....leave your emotions at the door and get the the most you can out of the class if that is the class you want to go to and you can afford

People get away with what you let them get away with so don't just nod and smile.

Concerned about the posts re the GSDA club I just spoke to the person who takes the reactive dog class. There has only ever been one cross breed in the class and they are still there. There is more than one shepherd club but I would imagine living in Armadale that this would be where you went. They can and are happy to help you. The reactive class is not on the regular day, it is a small class when no other dogs are on the ground apart from a few puppies sometimes when requested to attend.
