JAG
For those of you who send their puppies interstate via a flight do you mail the puppy pack or just send the bits that are easy with the puppy?
rajacadoo
Jag I was just about to ask this as well ... We are currently looking into this, cost wise, at the moment, parceled up with the pup, on top of the crate, or sent by Australia Post ??? Also for those that send food home, with your pups, how do you deal with puppy buyers in other states ??? I have 5 Basenji pups all flying out to their new homes soon, and on my website I have stated that pup will go with some food, so what do I do ??? I thought of sending some cash to the new owners, but that seems a bit impersonal to me... Thoughts/idea's ???

Perhaps you could send them vouchers instead. ie... if You use Artemis (as I do), then you could ask if they could sell you a voucher so that the puppy buyer could redeem in their state. In other words rather than getting a bag of food Artemis the puppy buyers gets a voucher to the value of a bag of food - this would be attached to a list of suppliers in their state Edited August 26, 2010 by TrinaJ
ellz
Lesson to you Rajacadoo-doo-doo, put on your site that you only provide food for the local ones or it will cost you a fortune! I don't like attaching anything to the crate because things invariably become DE-tached en route. I tie a slip lead to the handle of the crate securely and put the rest in an Aust Post satchel and send it via the mail if I can't hand it over in person. Stolzseinrotts
For those of you who send their puppies interstate via a flight do you mail the puppy pack or just send the bits that are easy with the puppy? I send the puppy pack via mail for the interstate people, obviously perishable foods are not sent but dry food that is supplied goes in the puppy pack. I have done this on many occasions with litters with no problems.

It really depends on how much food you send, I always send dry food with the pups and post in packs when required. I don't send a 10kg plus amount but I do send about 3 kgs of dry of what they have been raised on, to me that is a lot of food for a puppy (we feed mostly BARF) and should last the new owner some time until they can organise to get their own dry sorted out, or let them know well and truly prior to sending the puppy that will allow them the time to get the same brand of food organised. If they can't get the same brand, then by sending them about 3 kgs worth of dry it allows them enough to switch the pup over to the other food by mixing it. Sometimes people get a bit forgetful and disorganised when they're excited. As you all know the first day in a new home is not the time to change pups diet. It gives them some time to do it gradually if they choose to.

This is duplicated in the puppy guide but it gives the new owners something to follow ahead of time as well.

I didn't mean to just send the voucher

How many days supply would you consider to be sufficient?
Ellie
Just bumping this. Does anyone know how to contact Purina to purchase their puppy packs? I emailed them last week, have had no response and then spent 1/2 an hour on the phone on hold during my lunch hour and couldn't wait any longer. If anyone has a direct number I would appreciate it. Thanks! EFS Edited September 11, 2010 by Ellie
