Guest
We had a great time on Sunday, decided to try and aquaint our now 12 month old Lab with our daughters two dogs a Staffy and a maltee's x we decided the best way would be to walk them in the park together, and by the end of the nice long walk our dog had lost all fear and agression towards both other dogs, we are so pleased, as now we will be able to let them be together when we visit, the Staffy is a beautiful natured dog and wouldn't hurt a flee, he was just so good with our boy, and even the little malti who normally is a bit possesive of the staffy was very good as well. lablove
aussielover
is your dog normally fearful and aggressive?
tlc
That's great, I definatley think the best way to introduce e dogs is to walk with them initially, I have two friends with DA dogs who have become friends with my 4 through a lot of time and walks now they all socialize together. I have also done some work with some other DA dogs with my lot and we always begin walking.
Guest
aussielover I'm not really sure as it was the first dog we met when we first got him that he got into a bit of a scrap with but it could have been because he was invading the other dogs space, I just thought he may have been aggressive, neither dog was injured in the scrap. tlc it seems like that is the best way to go about it, I thought it better than being in our yard or daughters, to introduce them as they might have been protective of their own property. tlc
Have you had him long? Any reason for not socializing him before now?
Guest
tlc, we have had him since the 31st May, since that first encounter with the dog in the park, I guess we were a bit wary as we didn't know his background, as he was taken to the AWL as a stray. We feel more confident now, that he has met our daughter's dogs, staffy a male and maltee's x a female. lablove
aussielover
Good on you! It is unusual for a lab to be aggressive with other dogs which is why I was asking. Walking on lead is a great way for dogs to get used to each other.
