I love the slow shutter speed effect. The only reason I upgraded is because I have this obession with capturing my whippets at speed and the 7D fires off something like 8fps and has fast auto focus. I still haven't learnt to get the best out of the camera though. If it wasn't for my obsession my 400D would've served me perfectly well. Those pics I took could just as easily have been taken with the 400D. I agree with getting good lenses, although the ones you've got might give you what you want.
