Singed Coat

[Esky the husky]

There is a party going on at my place.

I thought it was in my best interest to keep Esky safe, on leash with me all night so she didn't get herself into any trouble.

Anyway, she backed into the woodfire heater and singed part of her coat :'(

It's yellow and smells burnt .

What should I do?

Cut it off? Leave it as is?

Advice Please?

I wouldnt cut it! but other than that I have no idea!

Don't feel bad accidents happen. Is it only singed, to me singed is not bad, had you have said burnt then that'd be bad! Is it just the top layer of fur? I wouldnt worry to much, just leave it for tonight and brush it out tommorow.

Well her top coat has gone yellow so I think singed is the right word.

Phew, I'm glad to hear it should brush out. Her coat has been looking so good recently and I had to go ruin it!

as long as her skin's not burnt underneath it should just grow out.

Lol - i've had a singed sibe tail or two in the past....i've always just trimmed the singed ends off. You can leave it or trim it, but don't trim down to the healthy roots.

I would have thought the singed bits would have broken off when brushing?

Where on the dog are the singed bits?

I've singed my eyebrows many a time and ocassionally my fringe

The burnt bits are on the top of her thigh and a little bit halfway down her tail.

It'll grow out.

One of the most bizarre events in my life occurred when I was working for a pro-handler in the States.

I bathed a Bedlington and went upstairs to go to sleep. Came down the next morning and found said Bedlington in his crate covered in yellow globules of singed hair. As you can imagine, I freaked.

Turned out that the handler decided the coat would benefit from a singing to help him scissor the dog into shape. The dog looked SENSATIONAL when he was finished I might add!
