CrazyCresties
Having just moved here, I'm trying not to be the paranoid pom and nuke every spider I see I know this isn't a red back, but is it one to be concerned about :D It's very shy and runs back into it's lair every time I get close, so I don't think it's gonna rip my jugular out anytime soon I'm curious to know what it is, so thanks for any info
Kirislin
Not a red back but might be related to them. Similar shape. Maybe it's an illegal import.
Ravyk
Most likely a red back. Not all red backs have the red stripe. its the right shape and right shaped web for a redback. Edited August 18, 2010 by Ravyk

Ravyk
Think I have found it! It is a member of the same family as the Redback. Taken from wiki "The bite of S. grossa is known to be medically significant in humans, however without any long-lasting effects." So yes I'd nuke it to be on the safe side, esp with dogs. Or relocate it to a local park. k9angel
I'd say redback too. Or a close relation to it. *sends shivers up my spine*
Kirislin
I used to live in Narracan (Gippsland) and I found a little spider there with a tail. I thought I'd discovered some weird new species so I rang somewhere, cant remember who now, but they said it was known and it was called the tailed spider, not very imaginative but if ever a spider was cute, this one was and I agree with crazycresties, jumping spiders are cute, as long as they dont jump on me. Say bye bye spidey - I don't like killing things
Kirty
Don't kill it. Just catch it and put it outside. Or leave it where it is.

tikira
Yuk, yep, gut instinct says "gotta go". Great shot, though. I would have had to crop a LOT more than you needed to Di
