R.i.p. Nelson From Hawkesbury

Although I didn't get to meet Nelson in person from what I heard and read of him, he was a very sweet boy.

Nelson was only 8 months old and like many others, was unlucky in life. He never really stood a chance.

From what we know he would of had 2 to 3 homes at least, possibly more - in his short 8 mths on this earth and 2 pound stays, the last resulting in his death this morning. :bottom:

R.I.P. boy.

Nelson found himself at the pound only recently and was adopted by a family who said they had low fences but were going to extend them higher. Sadly for Nelson they did not do this and so Nelson must of been getting out.

Due to this, no fault of his own, he was returned back to Hawkesbury pound, as a surrender.

It is tragic and a waste of life. A gorgeous young dog, not living to see his first Birthday or Christmas, not getting the chance to run, chase a ball and play, to lay in the sun or watch the birds fly by, not getting a chance to be loved and to give love.

He was a baby, with so much to offer.

He was quiet skinny when he arrived at the pound, so he not only suffered abandonment, he also suffered neglect at some stage. :o

Life is so unfair.

My condolences go out to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Hawkesbury pound because I know they at least, would of shown this boy the love and care he deserved in his final days and right up until the end.

Sadly though, Nelsons story does not end here.

There are Nelsons in pounds across the state and beyond dying needlessly everyday.

Please spare a thought for the forgotten ones, the poundies who through no fault of their own - pay with their lives.

I do not know what I did wrong,

Why I ended up in this mess,

I guess I was not good enough,

or as pretty as the rest.

This morning when I fell asleep,

for a moment things went dark,

But then when I finally awoke,

I was in a big doggy park.

The grass was green, the sky was blue,

Not a cloud was in the sky,

I felt happy and free as I ran along,

Not a single teardrop in my eye.

There was food and toys and treats to eat,

A river of sparkling blue to swim,

Trees and bones, warm golden sun,

Was this doggy heaven I was in?.

I knew that I was home at last,

I felt wanted and I felt loved,

I watched as others crossed the bridge,

The Rainbow sparkled from above.

Everyone was so kind to me,

They all wanted to be my friend,

One minute I was on Death Row dying,

And the next I was here, at the Rainbows end.

I hope life is better for you now boy. Run free - forever

This story made me so upset. :D Obviously Nelson was appealing enough for that family to take him in, but not enough for them to make the effort enough to keep him. There are other ways to keep a dog contained, although I know some take money. Maybe they just realised how active a 'teenage' dog can be. I don't understand some people- don't they feel responsible enough to take a dog back in and try to find it a home themselves, if the alternative is the dog losing his/her life? Does anyone know if you can offer to foster a dog on death row for a dog pound/kennel, if you are on property and would be prepared to do it? I'm so sorry, Nelson-another young life wasted. I hope you have someone to cuddle you now, wherever you are. Please, Breeders, let's try to be really careful when we find owners for our puppies, and offer to try to re-home them ourselves, if things don't work out. RIP, little boy.xox.:o

RIP Nelson :provoke: , you were failed by so many in such a short time.

Thank you k9angel, rescuers and fosterers, the staff and volunteers at pounds all over the country who do care and try to give all the Nelsons out there a little love and affection.

Poor boy, I can never understand people who cannot be bothered to make an effort to fix their fence and will let an animal die instead.

RIP Nelson, you were loved by us.

Second that ... dickheads! The dog deserved much better than his potential new family and deserved to have a life. If people keep breeding endlessly there will always be too many animals and not enough homes.

Although he didn't get rescue it definitely looks like he has touched your heart. So at least someone loved him at the end.

I know rescuing you often feel like you can't do enough but then we have to look at the ones we save and know we made a difference to them :-)
