koalathebear
My husband's family cat, Keats died today back in Canada. We received the following email from my mother-in-law this morning: All day Monday Keats was his usual running around telling us what to do self but Tuesday morning he was obviously sick. By late afternoon the vet said it was pancreatitis for the third time. He had three good years from the last time but now he was that much older and just couldn't fight it as hard. Saturday the only fight he showed was when we tried to force feed him, water was alright and the antibiotics but the food was very forcibly and loudly refused. He didn't really sleep for over 36 hours and we took turns staying with him because the only other time he complained was when he thought he was alone. He did sleep a very little during last night and early this morning but by noon it was obvious that he was in pain and just wanted to go. We had asked him to tell us and he was trying, his mouth kept opening but he had no more strength for sound. So we took him to the vet at dinner time and let him go. He knew when we put him in car without his cage, just wrapped in his favourite blanket. He just snuggled up to me and pushed his forehead into my chin as though to let us know it was alright. He was so calm and relaxed at the vet's like he knew they only wanted to help him. We were able to hold him as he fell asleep so now his pain is over and he never has to go this again. It got me crying at work and when I phoned him, I could tell he'd been crying, too. I know it wasn't easy for him being on the other side of the world when Keats passed so told him I'd 'send' Keats to the Rainbow Bridge for him. PaddyForever
So sorry for your loss. Your mother-in-law did the last thing that she could ever do for him, and I'm sure he understood that. He passed from her arms over the bridge and is lying yawning and stretching in the sun. Love to you all.
