Genabee
I just wanted to know... should a dog be flatulent? If so, how often is too often? And what can you do to reduce it?

persephone
It is usually something in their diet . What is your dog being fed? What treats do you give? What type of bones?

I agree, it's usually has to do with their diet Charlie can clear out the room if he eats to much grass... he gives those silent by deadly farts. aussielover
Occaisonal flatulence is normal, but if it is constant, it is probably something in the diet.
Shiba pup on his way
i've noticed my puppy only seems to let them off when he's sleeping.... always silent but deadly ones too
Genabee
Yes! Silent, deadly and while she is asleep!!! Rarely when she is awake! She eats mainly advance kibble, occasionally she gets some beef liver when training (in tiny amounts otherwise she gets the runs, I tend to use kibble for this reason), a tin of sardines a week and chicken wings once a week... Adza
Yes, Tahli only does the silent deadly ones when sleeping. Must be a relaxed thing. Never smelt or heard anything while she's awake.
KumaAkita
My favourite time Kuma did it was while we were out on our morning walk... he was trotting along and the all of a sudden "fffffrrrrtttt" and then a bit more walking and "fffffrrrrt". God it was funny!
Genabee
... and she just did it again. In my lap thank you....
koalathebear
Elbie does stealth farts sometimes ;) Approaches us, looks cute, lets out a silent deadly one and then darts away, leaving us gagging in the aftermath while he looks at us innocently Once he did an audible one and startled himself I have no idea what causes it because Elbie's diet is pretty stable. Pigs ears definitely make Elbie into a chemical weapon so never again. He's fine with cheese - just now and then he goes through vaguely farty phases. He eats Hills Science Diet (puppy) every day with occasional treats and bones and will go for long stretches without flatulence but then without warning, he will become very farty Edited August 11, 2010 by koalathebear
