baf65
I have a 5mth old cocker spaniel. He is not really ineterested in sitting and nibbling on a kong and just devours smackos and the like...he does enjoy having a lamb bone though. I have been buying a bag from the butcher (beef bones are too big at the moment) and give him one most days and he will chew on it for hours! If I know im going to go out for a few hours I will chuck one outside and he is pretty entertained the whole time, if the kids are eating I will put him in his crate with it or outside and we dont hear from him. So what I would like to know is...can you give yuor puppy too many bones??? HE is fed on Royal Canin, about 185g a day, over 3 meals. The odd little bit of smacko here or there and maybe a kong bikkie or 2 stuffed into his kong..once he has eaten them he leaves it! Thanks! W Sibs
I give a bone to my 2 everyday... whether it's chicken wings, chicken frame, chicken neck, turkey neck etc.. but it's their dinner. I was told to give Charlie bones everyday.
quickbrownfox
So what I would like to know is...can you give yuor puppy too many bones??? Yes. I did it to my puppy last week and he got constipated. He gets a bone every few days now (he is quite younger than your pup - only 10 weeks old.) BCPuppy
Yep, I feed raw, so bones every day since she was 8 weeks old. Be careful you supervise tho, Marlin once got one stuck across the top of her mouth and I had to flick it out with my fingers, didnt stop her one bit, try some variety as well. Some seem to be more entertaining than others chicken frames are very precious here and only to be eaten in private and great for keeping teeth clean! You may have to cut back a little on the other food, does depend on how much meat/bone ratio. I have two days a week were she only gets meaty bones, chicken frame, lamb shank, brisket, roo. Balance is the key.
aussielover
What is the best type of bone for a puppy that doesn't tend to chew (ie will swallow chunks of bone)?
koalathebear
What is the best type of bone for a puppy that doesn't tend to chew (ie will swallow chunks of bone)? Elbie inhales his food but he seems to be pretty good with lamb flaps - he'll gnaw on them for quite a while.
Niques
James has had more solid bones daily since 4 months and chicken wings daily prior. I would just keep an eye on the quantity of dry food you're feeding if you're still doing 3 meals a day so he's not getting too much food if you're giving quite meaty bones. BCPuppy
What is the best type of bone for a puppy that doesn't tend to chew (ie will swallow chunks of bone)? How about brisket, a piece big enough to force him to chew, mine is pretty good and chews everything for hours, spent about two hours on a smallish lamb shank last night
