Debyork2
It's always interesting seeing different breeds, the market is always great for dog spotting and for the most part everyone is well behaved, it's nice to see people enjoying a day out with their dogs, I can remember seeing some of the first Bichon's and Chinese Crested's in Qld and I used to have a Dandie Dinmont-still a rare breed, my Mum and I actually bred the first litter of Dandie Dinmonts in Qld for God knows how many years, nobody was interested in the pups for showing, I think all but one went to pet homes. Now, thanks to Harry, Dandies have a much higher profile. I also saw a Flat Coated Retriever last week!

I did have to ask what they were tho and then I listened to the briefing the breeder gave the staff so I would be able to tell people about them when they asked. The day before there was a puddle of Pharoah Hounds puppies there. I was their with my rescue shar pei puppies.

Guest
I saw a Bernese Mountain Dog at a tasting event yesterday at doggie bakery near me. So beautiful! He was a bit scared of all the little dogs around him DH was waiting outside with our 16 week lab puppy and someone said something about a minature labrador as they walked by Very rare indeed! Paulp
Just remembered we have a shiba inu in our club at the moment. Burnese Mountain Dogs are getting a few mentions, we have several in our club and I saw one today on the street. We also have a couple of Russian Terriers, like big shaggy bears. HeavyPaws
Why don't we get any rare breeds in my town? All we have are mass-produced staffies, labs or SWFs. If I want anything out of the ordinary I have to visit my friend's Wolfhounds or go to a show.
Paptacular!
I recognised a Finnish Spitz at the vet sometime last year. The lady was pleasantly surprised that I identified the breed. She's the only one in the NT.

corvus
There's a fellow around here somewhere that has a pair of Beddlington Terriers. He had to pick his jaw up off the ground when I asked him if they were Beddlingtons. It was hard to tell because they had quite long, shaggy coats. Staranais
Only two people in this country have so far identified my mally correctly. However, I've had lots of people ask what my German Shepherd is crossed with!

Sayly
There's a vet a couple of towns over from us with Bedlingtons, we are thinking about changing vets - at least she recognises rare terriers!

I had a lady who works at a pet food store ask me what breed of dog I own the other day, I told her and she said no such breed exists

I had a lady who works at a pet food store ask me what breed of dog I own the other day, I told her and she said no such breed exists Moon has been mistaken for a grey pitbull, a grey mastiff, a BEAGLE , and, my favourite, someone once confidently told me that she was most definitely a "one-na dem rare grey spotty saints bern-herd" I was happy after that. I thought I had a common Great Dane, turns out it's a rare Grey Spotty Saints Bernherd. Yes, DOLers, be jealous. I'm taking stud offers now ;) Don't miss out on your chance to own a rare {only one in the world so far} Grey Spotty Saints Bernherd puppy.
