Cheap Dog Toys?

Evening all

I'm quite sure this has been done before but couldn't find anything with a quick search

What do you creative people use for cheapo dog toys using stuff around your house you'll just throw out?

So far I've been having a great time hiding treats in cardboard rolls with their ends rolled over (though it takes my foster beagle about oh... 10 seconds to find it), and she's currently having a go at a plastic bottle with the (label and ring removed) with a bit of peanut butter smeared along the inside of the neck, and a few treats inside.

She rips the eyes/noses/whiskers off soft toys in a minute or two and then ignores them, but keeps trying to steal socks (a sock being ON your foot is no deterrent either lol), laptop bag straps, bags, paper, whatever-is-in-the-bin etc, so I know she wants to chew on things!

What are other good ideas!?

Ok, not around the house but cheap! Reject Shop or Hot Dollar rope toys - cheap and good for chewing. You could probably make your own with any clean thick cotton rope or ropes plaited together with knots in them.

Anything rubber - a heavy duty washer or something - ie my dog had a great time with the rubber ring thing from outside flood lights.

Investment in a Kong is worth it - you can sometimes get them on sale at the supermarkets - my dog looooves his Kong Wubba which is canvas covered and good for chewing but the rubber ones probably last longer - I would seriously recommend paying the one off for the appropriate one for your dog, it really will last.

Apart from that, frozen things - RESEARCH THOUGH THERE ARE MIXED VIEWS - if you choose to go with it freeze water or chicken/beef stock in a suitable size container with treats (meat/veg etc) included, hours of fun.

And bones - sorry don't want to be condescending but these are the best toy ever!

Op shops are the best! I clean my local ones out so I have to wait until they get more lol.

Abby seems to only like to chew things she's not allowed to... all the rubber plugs in the house were victims within days so I'd agree that she seems to enjoy chewing rubber lol.

She gets a bone every couple of days, but seems to prefer to dig holes and bury them (perhaps to resurrect at a later date?) which would be ok if I owned this house, however, the landlord, whilst agreeing I could have a dog, specified it MUST NOT DIG HIS IRRIGATION SYSTEM UP! So far there has been no damage, but I think this is a matter of time... while I'm here... any ideas on how to stop digging!? I feel I just go around finding ways to stop all her fun, but she's destructive as anything if you take your eyes off her for a second lol!

The "Evil Sock Monster" is popular here. When I have socks with holes or excessive wear, I knot them tightly into a free form, vaguely octopus shape. It is an ever evolving toy. When one sock starts fraying, it gets removed and tossed away, and new socks are added as they wear out.

Currently it is about 12 socks big.

LOVE IT! Off to raid to "odd socks bag"! Tonnes of odd socks as a certain husky likes stealing them from the washing line. How he manages to reach/aim for them when they are 8ft in the air is anyones guess!

I save empty peanut butter jars until I have two at a time. Give those to the dogs and they spend ages chasing the jars around and then licking out every last bit of peanut butter.

Empty milk/soft drink containers with a few holes punched in the sides and some kibble inside with the lid on are also good for a day or two (cut the plastic ring off around the top of the bottle).

Socks with holes in them I tie a knot in the middle and then pop some treats in the ends, Charli has a real thing for my socks and will protect them all day long.

Also another one here for Yogurt containers, the little guys really love them especially Buster.

I put dog poo collected from around the garden in nossi's holes and it stops him straight away, hasn't dug a new hole in months :(

Strawberry/mushroom punnets - put a treat inside, close it properly and she will play with it until it opens (and then some).

Yoghurt containers are also popular here...and empty juice boxes/poppers (though these need to removed from my pup after a while as she will ingest the pieces).

We have some small plastic bowls from Ikea that keep her going for a while - put a treat under a few on a flat floor and she pushes them around for ages (the bowl is just too big/rounded for her to grip properly in her mouth but small enough that it is hard to tip over). Now I only put a treat under one of three then move them around like a magic trick. Even though she sniffs out which one has the treat and works on it first, she always persists until she has upturned the others just in case.

Umm I use a silicone muffin tray to make ice pucks - drop a small piece of meat in each muffin cup (heart/liver is easy). Cheap but messy.

I have also used old work clothes or other suitable rags (heavy cotton drill, ripstop etc) to whip up some easy toys - throw a tennis ball, water bottle, or some other rags and a squeaker inside a section of pant leg or shirt arm and machine sew several times over each end. They seem to last as long as her store-bought toys and she certainly doesn't care that they aren't as cute. Mostly small ones but a few weeks back I used a whole leg to make a snake-like one that she loves - stitched to divide into several sections with different fillings in each one.

Some thick opaque dancers tights with a tennis ball in the end, suspended from the clothes line - works a treat! I also have one inside tied around the leg of the dining room table - keeps her busy when I am eating.

I give Genevieve egg cartons and she now stalks the toilet for used toilet rolls!

Empty yoghurt containers are a good one!

By far her favourite toy though is the rubber door stopper that is supposed to help keep the front door open!!!!

If you are after something that needs your interaction then bubbles  You can buy cheap bubble wands from the reject shop and dogs love chasing them and popping them..they only create 1 problem :rainbowbridge: farting. i think it may be caused from them swallowing air when they pop the bubbles.
