Eridor
Ok I am after an entry point DSLR but I dont want something I am going to "grow" out of too fast. I would rather spend the money once and get one that is easy to learn to use now but be able to do the fancy stuff with later once I have learnt. Would prefer Cannon or Nikon i think. Kirislin
Any of the Canon in the XXXD range, so from the 450D to the 550D, oh and the 1000D. Alot of DOLers have these cameras and they're all good. I dont know about Nikon but they're good too. Look here, you can see the cameras and what sort of photos they all take by exploring a bit. http://www.flickr.com/cameras/ wow, I just had a look myself and the most popular camera according to their graph is the Apple Iphone 3G!!!!! kja
If you're going Canon, also check out second hand 40Ds - one helluva a camera that will let you use green box (auto) mode or start to learn more. You can often get a great deal on them and they are simply fantastic cameras.

~*Shell*~
If I had the choice now, i would take the second hand canon 40d over the 450, 500 or 550d. Awesome camera and plenty of bang for your buck! If you want to buy new, the 1000, 450, 500 and 550Ds are all great starting points but if you're wanting to get into your photography quite heavily, you will soon learn what you can and can't do with them! Ravyk
I have a 550D and LOVE it! I love the photos that I am taking and it's been really easy to learn to use. I opted for just the body, not twin lense kit [didnt want those lenses] and bought lenses that I wanted. I bought myself a [new] Canon 1.4 50mm lens, [2nd hand] Canon 60mm macro lens and a [2nd hand] Tamron 17-250 [?] zoom lens.
lappiemum
I just bought a pentax k7 - it has a great feel and is weather proofed, which is great when taking pics out on wet and soggy show rings! LOL I'm still learning how to drive it, but its my first DSLR and I'm very happy I also got a free lens, but I bought my main lens. If you get a chance to handle one I def recommend it. eta some pics - these are beginner pics, but I'm happy. They were taken without a flash in low light conditions Edited July 28, 2010 by lappiemum
