Kelpiegal
I honestly think you would adapt to a wagon fairly quickly, they are easy enough to drive I find. It really is personal preference when it comes to a model so I would get out & look at all models in your budget & get a good look at their roominess & comfort to drive etc. Also if going for a 6 cylinder see if you can find something on LPG or can be converted. A lot of places offer conversions at reasonable prices these days & overall they do save on your fuel budgets. Not sure of your dog's age but I know my gf had a custom made ramp built for her older dog to walk up to access her car. Being a 35kg+ dog she can no longer lift her easily on her own. She paid around $200 for the ramp & for dogs that need more help with access to cars the ramp seems ideal. It easily slides down behind her seats too. Good luck with your search for your new wheels. Mrs Rusty Bucket
If you get a 4 cylinder magna, make sure you get the manual one, or test the automatic for power. I found the automatics were nice but a bit gutless, ie hard to over take even on the hay plains, but no worries with a manual. The newer ones might be better, mine was a 1991, with electric windows and cruise control and A/C. I've got a landcruiser now. They're more tippy (prone to rollover and wobbling in strong winds) than your normal station wagons, but they can do those desert roads with two wheel ruts with big hump between. My brother had a forrester and loved it. Decided a VW Golf was better value for money (in terms of holding re-sale value). And there's a lady at dog club who has two GSD in the back of a triton twin cab ute (in the ute tray with a canopy).
Ravyk
I get about 400Kms to the tank with my car, further if it's just highway driving. Although commodores dont like traffic I can tell you that! Not sure what commodore you have driven but they aren't bad at all in traffic. We get about 500ks in city driving on a tank of fuel [OH drives it about 100ks a day to and from work through suburbia] and close to 700-800 highway driving in our VT.
