Poppy is still quite lame but as I paid a heap of money for the clinic I will just give her an aspirin on the day and she should be right.

I find this a really odd comment - I grew up on a farm and if our dogs appeared to be "still quite lame" they would not go out at all.

I hope for your sake that Poppy is not injured worse - if you think you "paid a heap of money for the clinic" - I would take bets you will be paying the vet a whole lot more if she does further damage.

I wasn't going to get involved in this thread because I wasn't there to make the call - I had a pony who hated dogs, never caused them any long term harm but he did put the BC out of action many times. Silly bugger was so hell bent on getting back at that pony (never bothered with the others) we had to lock the pony up in the cattle yards where the dog could not get in to him. My horse paddock backed on the sheep yards so every time the sheep were in the yards/shed the pony had to be locked away. I have seen some pretty nasty horses when it comes to dogs, our pony was never that bad - but he didn't lose the fights the dogs came looking for.

I am sorry, but I can not believe that you would put a clinic over your dogs health. I know a lot of farmers who have working dogs first and pets second, but even they would realise the need to have the dog looked at by a vet.

I have seen this thread as a lot of people showed they cared for your dog and tried to reason with you to take her to the vets. I saw when you posted and swore at those who had tried to suggest you take her to the vets ( before you edited it). I am truly puzzled now...

I truly hope your dog is okay and that she gets to the vet's asap.

Dont need to tell me that, lol, my super quiet, trustworthy, reliable old gelding near on killed me on Sunday. Riding him at a canter, he busts into a gallop and started bucking like a wild bronco! Sounds like you are feeding him too much. Perhaps you should look into that.

I prefer to keep my pony by himself as he is a valuable show pony and I dislike him playing with other horses. It is a worry with all the rugs he wears. I wouldn't want a hood being pulled over his eyes. I do put boots on him but still I worry. He is only out in the paddocks for a little while as he is usually in the stable.

Nope, dont need to look into anything. He is on a specialised diet from Kentucky Equine Research and Country Park Herbs. But you are a show person, you would know who they are right.

So you prefer to keep your pony alone hey....funny how the story changed, i thought u put your other pony down...very strange. Might want to consider what the pony prefers, Im sure he would prefer to have a paddock companion. After all, you did say that he is very lonely. He must be quite miserable being kept in a stable and rarely turned out, i feel sorry for him.

Im in the horsey show scene, what kind of showing do you do with your pony? What lines is he from again, i might know who he is....

What's the harm in having Poppy checked over by the vet? At least you will have a definitive answer to your original question that way.

Honestly, my vets complain that they only ever see me when something really serious has happened with my dogs - but they are also perfectly happy to listen to my description of symptoms over the phone and either advise me on the course of action, or if I really need to bring the dog in for a proper looking over... maybe you could at least ring your vet about Poppy's leg?

During jump training I took a bad fall off my horse. Was hurt, but dusted myself down and got back on. I was a "bit sore" for a while. I (months) later found out (coincidentally) that I had broken my heel and that I shouldn't have been walking on it.

Pull your dog from the clinic. Stuff the money. Whatever the damage, even bone bruising takes a good while to heal. Personally, I wouldn't be satisfied to not have a professional opinion even if it was only to back my opinion up with.

You think DOL is painful imagine the reception I would get if I went on a horse forum and said that my horse had suffered an injury resulting in lameness earlier in the week and I wanted to take it to a cross country clinic on the weekend! I'm tempted to do that and see if the reaction would be much different, I suspect I would be scorched good and proper

I really don't think the issue here needs to be about the Pony. Many horses are kept alone these days and adapt just fine. Dogs are pack animals too remember but many just have one dog.

I am truly astounded that someone could behave in such a way with regards to their dog. The dog clearly needs veterinary attention. An Aspirin is not going to alleviate the pain or fix the problem. If you are serious about the Aspirin, atleast call up a vet first for an appropriate dosage guide.

And then perhaps have a read of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act

(3) A person in charge of an animal shall not fail at any time:

(a) to exercise reasonable care, control or supervision of an animal to prevent the commission of an act of cruelty upon the animal,

(b) where pain is being inflicted upon the animal, to take such reasonable steps as are necessary to alleviate the pain, or

I don't believe JulesP is trolling. Either something is wrong (we all have rotten days/weeks/months that accumulate and get on top of us from time to time) or there has been a misunderstanding of words, intent ... or both. Give her a chance. As Ravyk has mentioned, she is a long standing DOL Member and generally her posts have come across as being very sympathetic to her dogs.
