No More Nutro Senior, So What Are Your Recommendations?

I have my nearly 9 year old Labrador and 6 year old greyhound on nutro senior at the moment. I have just heard today that this will no longer be made because the demand for it is so low. They were both doing really well on this dry food, so I am a little dissappointed that I wont be able to get it much longer. What do you guys suggest as a replacement and why?

They were on advance prior to this, but the end result (what I had to pick up off of the lawn ) was huge!

Both of them also get chicken necks, vegetables, sardines, eggs and the occasional natures own tin, but dry is the main part of their diet. I am not planning on changing them to a complete raw diet, so am just looking for ideas for the dry food please

Yep my lot don't do that well on Advance but I have two BIG bags so they are stuck with it for a while.

I found Royal Canin was generally the most acceptable with the dogs and most acceptable for me as the resulting poos were quite small & firm.

Unfortunately I think it is also the most expensive of the readily available premium foods.

Tried Eagle Pack, Evo, Artemis etc. but wasn't that impressed although I know there are several people on the forum like EP.

Perhaps that is one you could try - down side is that not everyone stocks it.

But really they don't need dry food if you are feeding BARF which is what I am doing.

I just have the dry for maintaining condition on dogs that are very active but I could substitute chicken necks etc. for it.

Biggest concern when feeding BARF is that it has to be balanced but if you feed Dr. Billinghursts BARF which is already prepared, it has the right balance.

Thanks Stitch. We still have at least half of a 13kg bag left of the nutro, so will finish that off and hopefully I will come up with another brand.

You could try Pro Plan or Eagle Pack. Both fairly easy to get hold of. My dogs are currently on Pro Plan and on a walk on the weekend I had trouble finding the poos to pick up as they were so small

I emailed Nutro and they have suggested their lite as a substitute. Apparently it is the same but without some vitamins of the senior.

Nutro senior is being deleted but the company will soon be bringing out a new lite/senior combo.

Eagle Pack is also a good brand.

Most "lite" or "weight loss" formulas are good for senior dogs.

I see that the new to the Australian market Canidae does a Platinum kibble that might suit. I've not tried it on my dogs though.

I came in to post the same thing, I was talking to a Rep today, and said they will be bringing the light one out soon
