I will be taking her to the vet ASAP at 9 am tomorrow but I want to know what my possible options will be.

Can they give her a crown? Do filling? Will it be a major procedure.

Please anything anyone can tell me to let me know what I will be in for tomorrow.

Edited to fix, vet not dentist.

All a normal vet can do is pull the tooth out.

If you want to spend a bit you could be referred to a dental specialist for other dental work.

Which tooth is it, and how does it look?

If the tooth isn't cracked and the pulp isn't exposed they may not need to do anything much. If it is serious you'd need to see a specialist to do anything much more sophisticated than take the tooth out I think.

Has anyone ever had a dog's tooth taken out?

I think the pulp is exposed.

One of mine had a molar removed when she was young (it was deformed and had abscessed :( ). She had to have a general anesthetic to have it extracted. The vet now thinks it would have been better if the opposing tooth had been removed as well because that now suffers from having no chewing mate (if that makes sense). She needs to have it scaled and cleaned a fair bit.

I hope Bitty's tooth can be saved.

The last rescue who needed a major dental: had 18 rotten teeth removed. He was sore, needed antibiotics and pain meds but recovered fine. :( It's really common (oldies in particular) to need an extraction or two and they all do well.

WhiteEagle and Earthdog can you tell me how long it took for your dogs to recover from the tooth removal?

I don't rememeber it taking long at all Bub. She's such a guts (Labrador) and so stoic that I think she would eat under a general if she could lol. It was about 7 years ago now but I think she was right in a day or so after the extraction. No bones for a while though.

It will take up to a week or so to heal Bub, but that is only if it needs to come out.

While healing, they need a special diet, so that the food doesn't get caught in the gum.

No mushy food, no mince, no kibble, no mousse, no confit, no cakes and pies for Bitty. She will have to eat cubed steak or chicken breast, or possibly cubed salmon for a week.

If it is the carnassial it sounds like a slab fracture which is caused by eating bones .... the tooth will have to be taken out as it is very painful , Kovu had his carnassial out 2 weeks ago and he was totally normal after the surgery, ate his biscuits as normal but now he is not allowed bones.I also have to clean the opposing tooth as it now has nothing to grind on and will get a tartar build up.

Cost was around $500 , this included painkillers and a recheck.

Kaos has had a tooth out, and will have another taken out soonish

Cracked her back tooth, no choice but to remove it, she has also cracked one of her 'fangs' at this stage it is causing no problems, but vet and I are keeping an eye on it, and it will be taken out as soon as needed

Kaos went in for the day, got put under, tooth taken out - vet said it was one of the hardest teeth he has ever had to pull out, she was a bit sore the next few days but within 2 weeks on normal food and has no problems with eating bones or anything

Thanks for your help everyone.

Unfortunately the pulp was exposed so vet didn't think it was appropriate to send us to the dog dental place. She has had her tooth pulled out, is home from the vets and is currently by my side offering play bows with a toy in her mouth! Poor toothless Bitty! No tug for a while!

I must say I was expecting her to be more quiet. She is zooming around with much gusto!
