Dried Bones

 Share

Recommended Posts

I've recently acquired a good amount of dried kangaroo bones.

Whilst my little one loves to chew on them, all that cracking noises he makes when eating them makes me wonder how they differ from raw bones in terms of cleaning teeth goes and if they are more likely to splinter?

I know some people who feed dried bones (roo tail) with no problems.

I can't even feed raw bones without problems so I feed carrot instead. Or small bits of beef chip (rawhide).

I worry that dried bones are prone to brittleness too. Like the ones that have been out in the paddock for a long time.

I don't mind the roo jerky or beef tendons though for my dog. Something to chew that is not my ugg boots or sox.

Dried bones are not similar to cooked bones. Cooked bones are cooked at high temps very quickly which makes bone brittle. The dried bones that we manufacture are slow cooked over a period of 40hours at low temperatures which keeps most nutrients in the meat and stops the bone splintering. I have done this for 10 years and never received a complaint about bones splintering or injuring an animal.
