Lamb Necks

 Share

Recommended Posts

I'm a raw feeder. When I first started giving necks Riley My dog he would tear all the meat off and leave the neck bones. Now that he's got the hang of devowering bones he is eating the lamb neck bones. I just wanted to check that this was ok and normal.

Is it really only the shank bones we need to take away after the meat is eaten ( because of risk to teeth being a weight barring bone) if not, what others should I watch out for. Riley has become a crunching machine ( and I love it, teeth look fabulous :(

Thanks in advance :)

It is perfectly normal for Riley to eat the bones, it should be fine. On rare occasions a part of the bone can become lodge in the stomach or intestines and cause a blockage, requiring surgery. signs to look out for are innapetance, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation. once he has finished eating you really should remove all left overs especially if you feed him outside, a bone that gets left in the sun is just like a cooked bone and can splinter and cause damage to the mouth and insides if swallowed. if there is meat left on the bone it can rot and make riley sick.

enjoy the nice breath!
