Good Vet Recommendation

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good vet in the Brisbane Area. So far I have been to two, one was o.k. but very expensive and the other seemed to be taking me for a ride with my dogs itching condition.

If anyone has used a vet that they have been very happy with, I would love to know which one. As I also feed mostly raw, I would like to see a vet that supports this option.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm prepared to travel (within reason) to see a good vet.

Yep, Susan is fantastic! Wouldn't go anywhere else. :happydance2:

She was away last week and the locum was great too. :happydance2:

I understand he is easy on the eyes :happydance2:

Her rates are reasonable, she is wonderfully supportive to rescue organisations, her staff are amazingly friendly, they will always fit you in for an appointment if it is urgent, Susan is often returning phone calls to me after late in the evening. She is very laid back, supportive but also matter of fact. She does the most amazingly tiny stitches I have ever seen during surgery (they are a bugger to get out cause she does em so tiny but it means almost no scarring). She will admit if she does not know something or is not sure, she will ask advice from specialists not just refer on.

The whole surgery has a really positive vibe to it.

I totally agree. I have had many a phone call returned by Susan or Rod. I recently rang to find out how much fish oil to give my dogs based on their weights. At the time they had no idea I was a regular customer but still returned my call within a few hours and talked me through it. They got nothing out of it but it sure helped me.

That's the kind of vet I'm after, one that isn't all about taking you for ride with your money. Am definitely going to give them a call. Thanks.

Some of what I like about Susan's practice:

Great staff, willing to fit us in even when they're just about to go home for the night, explain things in plain English but don't treat us as dummies, ask relevant questions, don't overcharge and often don't charge for a consult just meds, is great at routine surgeries including doing a FABULOUS job with Ruby's cruciate ligament repair, fantastic after-care and free phone advice when needed, don't push any particular food line etc and happily cuddle and smooch with the girls...I could go on but I won't.

Prices are always reasonable and there is never an up-sell or request for credit card details before the consult!

Sorry to crash this thread, but I'm also considering finding a new vet in Brisbane. I'm on the Southside. I've been going to Green Cross at Moorooka as that is the vet my OH used to use when he was living at his parents (and I'm originally from the Northside). While each time I've been there the vets have been lovely (Don't think I've ever seen the same one twice though..) I find them really expensive and all of the reception staff are really rude. I'd like to find somewhere a bit more friendly and personal, and more affordable if possible.

Hi Minxy, We live in Moorooka but take our Frenchie to see the Bowden at the Acacia Ridge Vet Surgery - whilst its a little further away he also see's my friends pug so is used to seeing the brachy breeds. Bowden own's the surgery is really relaxed, friendly and always has time to see everyone, I've never had an issue getting in to see him. I'd recommend him if you don't mind driving 10 mins down the road. Sammie

Do they do a better price on vaccines if you vaccinate both your dogs at the same time? Ive head of some that will do the second dog for half the normal price if they get done at the same time, havnt had a chance to ask the vet Ive been using if they do this

Don't know...and might never find out as I don't want to vaccinate any of the girls again. Lilly and Ruby are both 10 and Molly is almost 7 and epileptic so I'm wary of vaccinating them again. Have previously done annual jabs for various reasons including boarding kennel requirements, but over the life of the dog, I wonder how safe it really is?
