IntrepidDachsie
Hi. We have two dogs with what appears to be food allergies. Do any of you know a vet in Hobart (or surrounds) who does specific testing for this? We've been trying to figure out what's wrong with them for a couple of years now and feel like we've tried everything (except whatever it is that's causing this). They both get the same symptoms which are similar to kennel cough (though they are vacc'd regularly). They have a hacking cough and one has a phlegmy snotty nose, like she has a very bad cold. Suggestions appreciated.
Mas1981
As far as I know there are no tests for food allergy its all done through elimination diets.
ellz
There used to be a vet in Sandy Bay who did a lot of work with allergies and natural therapies. http://www.yellowpages.com.au/tas/sandy-ba...40-listing.html
Nushie
My mums dally is allergic to red meat. And we only found out through the process of elimination. Cut his diet right back to the blandest food with no additivies etc in it and then once his allergies faded we re-introduced items back into his diet. Took a couple of months, but he is much happier now.
spottychick
I found the NOrth Hobart Vets to be very good when I lived in Hobart and they apparently have a visiting specialist in dermatology NHV

So it's good that your mum found this out one way or another!
IntrepidDachsie
Thanks for your replies guys. One is definitely red meat, but also other things too. Driving us mad with their hacking & snotting, but we'll get there.
Hafhafa Hounds
They have a hacking cough and one has a phlegmy snotty nose, like she has a very bad cold. My dog Sally used to have this too. Her eyes were always goopey and she was itchy as well. I changed her diet from dry/canned to raw prey model. Made a HUGE difference and cannot speak highly enough of feeding a species appropriate diet. Sally has eaten BARF then prey model for 15+ years now and is a healthy 16 year old. http://www.rawlearning.com/ Sonia PS I know that doesn't really address your question (finding a vet in Hobart) but have you looked at their diet?
