Dogs That Sleep In The House - Question On Times

For people that have their dogs in the house over night what time do you go to bed and get up? This is assuming that the dogs are in crates and can't go out to the loo through a doggie door.

I've had my pup in for the last couple of nights but I am getting rather tired as I am going to bed later and getting up earlier to reduce the time she is in the house.

Mine all sleep inside, one crated and three not. We go to bed around 10ish, and get up at varied times, depending on work the weather etc anywhere between 7 and 10 if i sleep in the dogs sleep in. They let me know if they want to go out. Two ring the bell I have hanging on the door, one gives a little bark and the one in the crate cries if he wants a wee or a drink. Sometimes they all go out for a wee early and then we all go back to bed, that depends what time we have gone to bed. I love my morning doggy cuddles. My OH let's Bron out of his crate when he goes to work at 6 and he gets on the bed, so usually when I wake up I am surrounded by 4 little furry bodies!

Last toilet break here is around 11pm. Usually up in the morning between 7 - 8am.

Mine don't usually make any noises at night, so if I do hear them I will let them out for the toilet. It is rare though.

In the morning I can let them out and my Greyhound will sit on her bed until after she has had her breakfast :thumbsup: Then she will go to the toilet.

My dogs are in the house day and night. They go to bed when I do and get up when I do, if they need to go out for an emergency they can make a noise to wake me up.

Thats kindof the same with me - Lottie stays asleep till I'm good and ready to get up (i've trained her well :thumbsup: ), this morning we both enjoyed sleeping in till 10.30  , but saying that, I didn't actually go to bed until like 1am - she had been sleeping most the night, but had a toilet break at 1 before we both went to sleep...

When uni starts up again (next week), we'll be in bed by 10ish and up by 7/8 - and she doesn't wake up until I do, but if she needs to go, which is very rarely, she'll let me know :D . She knows if she annoys me she's straight outside, so she learnt quickly the way to stay in the house  :D .

How old is your pup JulesP?

I have an older dog and he is inside all the time. Night time, he goes to bed when the lights go out (10 or 11ish) and he sometimes goes to the back door to be let out for a pee. I always ask him first anyway and tell him I won't be happy to get up in the middle of the night

Usually he goes just before bed, or will wait until after brekky the next morning which is about 7am.

We don't crate any more because we got tired of having to time our sleep around the dog's bladder capacity, we could never sleep in in the morning on weekends - now she tries to convince us to get up at 5:30 and feed her some times but generally it works much bette

Of course, this only works once they're house trained - we crated for the first 6 months and the crate is still in our bedroom and she can sleep in it or not as she chooses

Edit to add: she goes to bed when we do, and gets up when we do, more or less. She works around our sleeping times, not vice versa

Buddy is inside most of the day anyways as well but will wander towards the door and i will let him out or he is outside already. He will probably go outside for the last time for the night around 7pm and then he is inside until i get outta bed in the morning, which since im on holidays can be around 11am. If I sleep in mum usually lets him out of my room though. But he is more than happy to sleep in my bed for as long as he can

My 16 week puppy sleeps from about 10-7. We don't use a crate, but he will let us know when he wants to go out in the morning by tapping on the door.

My older dog has been known to sleep in till midday (depending if we are doing anything exciting or not!).

Our dogs are in the house all day and all night. They are let out for a final pee at about 1130pm-12pm and they go for their morning toilet at about 630am... Some days they sleep in longer (with us!). Even our 11 week old pup is holding it (mostly) through the night now.

Boo gets taken out for toilet at sometime between 11-12.

He gets up when I do most mornings (around 8am) but simply decamps to the couch and does not go outside and by the time I leave around 9am he still has not been outside usually.

On weekends he can go a good 12 hours before I finally kick him outside to go to the toilet.

If he needs to go out during the night (rarely happens) he comes up beside the bed and nuzzles at me. Once I stir he jumps over me on to the bed and sits there waiting. If I do not get up, he hops off and repeats.

On weekdays Willow sleeps in longer than me and usually stays in bed until right before I leave for work when she goes outside while I get her kong and other toys ready. On weekends she wakes me up around 9ish.

She is mostly inside, if she wants to go out for any reason outside the normal schedule, or if I lose track of time, she runs between wherever I am and the back door until I go and open it.

On sunny weekends when I am home I leave the back door open so she can come and go as she pleases.

My dogs also go to bed when I do, can be anytime between Midnight and 3am depending on what shift I work. Most nights we have a pitstop before bed. They then stay in their crates until I get up between usually 9am and 10am The youngest will bash his crate if he really needs to get out. The other dog has never asked to go outside at night.

I go to bed anwhere between 2 and 4am (I have sleeping issues and most nights) then get up around 8 or 9am depending on plans the next morning. My dog goes out around midnight, then when i get up i open the door for her to go out but she usually doesnt want to go out til midday sometimes later!

I don't use crates unless i need to, in our case she doesn't mind crates or her normal bed. I only got the crate for trialing but i dont wish to trial anymore so it's no point using the crate unless its for a purpose.

She does bark to let us know she needs to go if she needs to in the night, but she's almost 5 years old so she doesn't generally need to.

Gosh, good question. It varies in my house.

On a work night, I wold be in bed by midnight right after dogs go for wees. Then they would be out in the morning by 7am at the latest.

However, I have one time gone to bed at 10.30 pm and got up at 11am!! I was actually quite annoyed as OH and DD were up and hadn't thought to let the dogs out (they sleep in their own room righ tby the back door). Poor babies were probably hanging out for a wee!!!

Generally though, They would not be "sleeping" for more than 8 hours and that would be max usually.

Dogs come in, or have a toilet break just before i go to bed, usually they are fed then too, then they are in until morning. if i don't have work then it could be upto 12 hours, if i have work then its about 9 or 10 hours.

The Saint is great and will wake us up is she needs to go in that time, but rarely does. If she is on anyother food then what she is on now she can't even hold long enough to wake us up, but thats not a toilet training issue and its why we ripped up the carpet and laid tiles. when we had the baby in our room - and therefore couldn't let her in or she'd wake baby up- we used to crate her in the lounge room so we could hare her wake up (plastic crate makes a lot of noise) and get her out to the toilet. this worked weall but once and it was just a matter of a few seconds too.

the pug is a little turd and actually holds until he is let in, the only way i have found that stops this is containing him over night, but not wanting to crate him, i have his crate open and in a play pen. he poo'd in there once on the second night and never has again. he is also a lazy little thing (much like me) and wont get out of bed, so once the saint goes out, he can lay in bed for up to another 2hrs, and becasue if this, i have, twice now, forgotten to put him out altogether. both these times he had held on until i have gotten home. he's lucky i only work half days!
