Marley'z Mum
Hi all Today Marley met a 8 month old Rotti...... things went really well, they were very friendly with each other, sniffing then that turned into the pair of them jumping around like they wanted to chase each other and play... (they were both on leads) I have a question though, as I said they were both really well behaved, the Rotti more so than Marley, she didn't make a sound, however Marley spent most of the time barking, not aggressive barking just barking, then bounding around on the spot trying to play then barking... the Rotti reacted by laying on the ground in a drop, then jumping up jumping around like she wanted to play then droping again and so on... Question 1... How do I stop all the barking?? Also when Marley gets a lil excited he gets a lil snappy, he snaps at the air, he does it when playing with me, he has never made contact.... but he was doing it to this gorgeous Rotti, and I am concerned as to what might happen if he connected with a lip or something??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.... all in all it went well though, and I was very proud that he wanted to play and didn't just bark and run away Edited July 21, 2010 by Marley'z Mum
W Sibs
That's awesome Marley's made a friend. You should organise a playdate with the 2 pups in a yard where they can be off leash and play together Emmy growls, barks, bounces, prance and run around like a fool when she is really happy playing with other dog. I don't stop her from making the noise (I find it cute when she is playing with other dogs) so I don't know how to stop that. Dogs like playing bitey faces.. my 2 can play that for hours. If one of them is biting hard, the other one will let everyone know he/she doesn't like it.
aussielover
Mindy plays with a friend who is very vocal. Sometimes it sounds like he is trying to kill her! She always runs back for more though, so I don't think it is too serious.

Clyde
Terriers often 'air snap' when they're excited.
Jacquiboss&scoop
It Might be that they were both on leads and puppy was getting a little frustrated as well , rotties also play a little different to the terrier types as well they tend to be quieter not quite so vocal , Aussies and borders often make quite a bit of noise when they play too
Aziah
I think you're reading far too much into this situation and wanting to correct a more than likely 'normal' behaviour
persephone
marley sounds as if being lively/noisy is the way he's wired. ... my boy Hamlet - a cockerXkoolie is now 7 and still threatened with death at least once a day for barking/racing around like a fool ;)

Marley'z Mum
I think you're reading far too much into this situation and wanting to correct a more than likely 'normal' behaviour Just wanted to make sure he wasn't trying to be bossy.... and to be rather honest... I haven't had a puppy for about 15yrs and don't remember socialising that one, so I am still learning and I would hate to see them get into a fight marley sounds as if being lively/noisy is the way he's wired. ... my boy Hamlet - a cockerXkoolie is now 7 and still threatened with death at least once a day for barking/racing around like a fool so sounds like I just have a crazy noisey puppy on my hands oh well I am sure he can't get much worse than my 3 kids
