angelsun
I'm currently bringing a dog in from Sweden and it was advised to me after finishing up my paperwork for the Canadian Export, that I deal with a shipper in the country where I'm getting the dog from. They (the canadian shipper) suggested a few names and I contacted the one in Sweden and it's turned out great so far.

Hi Angelsun...I have already imported from Sweden & it was VERY easy seeing it is a category 2 country. Category 4 countries are more difficult due to the need for Rabies vaccination and the subsequent titre tests....timing & using the right govenment vets are a must. This is the reason why I will probably want to involve an agent. I don't want anything to get messed up due to ignorance in another country. It is more expensive BUT I think it is worth it for peace of mind!! Cheers
angelsun
yes Canada is a Catagory four country and yes, a pain in the butt to get all the stuff done! I have a check list that I can email you to help if you like. We're down to crunch time with the Canadian one..and yes, Sweden gives me a lot less headaches! Do you still have the list of shippers in Sweden, we have a pup to come in later in the year, the only pet shipper I can find is Scandi pet I would like to compare a few more, Scandi pet is based in Stockholm and the puppy is quite some distence from there, so would like to try and find one a little closer to the pup. Hi Wyn Jetpets assisted me with my import from Sweden & their agent was Scandipets. You will find that the pup will probably have to depart from Arlanda airport in Stockholm...my breeder delivered the pup to Arlanda airport as they wanted to ensure she arrived safely & they could hand her over. The trip took them well over 2 hours but they were more comfortable with this arrangement. Sorry I can't help you further.

I'm using Scandi pet at the moment and yes distance is a pain as the pup is in the southern tip and that's about 1500 km distance. Closer to fly out of Copenhagen but that is a cat 4 country, so won't work! My friend (who is the breeder) will fly to Stockholm with pup the day before transport, as it's cheaper for her to do that than drive or even fly the pup freight. Bokezu
I have just imported fom Hungary cat 4 and didn't use an agent at all, saved 2k on the quotes I had. But my breeder has done it all before many times and knew what tests, gov vets etc... would be harder for someone who wasn't familiar. Being close to the Gov vets would make it pretty straight forward, as everything you need to do is in the import permit, and I'm sure would be in the export permit as well. That is too bad if that is the case for US, pretty sure you don't have to have an agent for UK and I know you don't for Europe. All the agent does is organise the tests, they are very straight forward, Export and Import permits, which anyone can do , and organise the air travel, not worth the money they charge, but I do understand people need to use them. angelsun
My Canadian import cost me an extra $700 to use their services. Well worth knowing that all the t's are crossed and i's are dotted in my opinion.
