How Do You Know?

I apologise if this sounds like a silly question....

But how can you tell between dandruff or if you have failed to rinse her shampoo out properly?

Genevieve scratches and I see flakes on her fur. I also notice them if I am brushing or stroking her.

I have had a good look and to me it looks like dandruff - and the last time I bathed her I didn't use any soap, just in case.

I have ordered some Aloveen as I have read here that it can be good for dandruff, and I have started feeding her sardines with her morning meal.

So... how do you know? And if it is, how long before it clears up?

Groomers Evening Primrose Oil shampoo is very good for flaky and dandruff skin.

Not washing out shampoo would give small white flakes for a day or 2 after bathing.

Dandruff, you can see the skin looks dry and flaky as you part the coat.

Dilute the shampoo before use and you will find it much easier to rinse out.

other things can cause dandruff, like central heating, stress and other skin problems.

Thanks everyone!

It is definitely dandruff she has then. It hangs around.... I have been washing roughly every 3 weeks, but mainly because she likes to dig in the dirt and then she is feral.

She does like to sleep on top of the central heating though, so maybe this is what is doing it.

I will be sure to make up a solution of her wash in another bottle I think. Sounds like a good idea!

Yes, I have just found out about this product. It's a very very very good product to help eliminate dandruff and to help keep it under control.

My 5 month old schnauzer poodle mix puppy, has had major problems with dandruff ever since we got him at 8 weeks old. Have tried many things to help his condition. He was due to go to the derm last week, but a long story short, my DH wasn't impressed and after doing some more research I found out that it not uncommon for puppies to have underactive sebaceous glands, its called Seborrhea Sicca. They usually out grow it. But until then there are a few things to do to control it. Using a Sulfur and Salicylic acid based shampoo with help to remove the scale and reduce the scale production, it will also help reduce itching. It will not dry out the skin like other medicated shampoos. And it works.

Now I have discovered the Groomers Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo. I have just ordered it today, the lady I ordered it through is fantastic, very very helpful with selecting which of their products is the best for your dogs condition, and how to often is best to use them for your breed of dog, etc. I have also ordered some of their Tropical Creme Conditioner. Hopefully they will help to keep his dry itchy skin under control.

i don't think you will need the conditioner after using that shampoo, I certainly wouldn't use it on the body of the dog as you want the action of the shampoo to work best on the body - it works even better when blow drying the dog.

Yes, that is exactly what the lady said I spoke to. She said make sure you blow dry after using it to help it penetrate the skin. Although she did recommend the conditioner to help with the poodle part of his coat. She said to use it in small amounts on the more poodle coat areas (being mainly his back) which isn't wear he is experiencing the worst of his problems, so I guess that works out well  I'm really looking forward to it arriving so I can start using it, I have such high hopes

have you got him clipped on the body? I'd just use the shampoo and let it do it's job first. Otherwise, give Groomers in the UK an email to check it will still be as effective with the conditioner.

Thanks, I'll try the shampoo on it's own first then, and I think I might email them directly as well, just to be sure about the conditioner when I start using it.

He had his first clip about 4 weeks ago, so cute and what a big difference it made.
