Bad Week For Irressponisble Dog Owners

Last week was so bad for irresponsible dog owners!

There a number of incidents which really pissed me off and some that really worried me. I can sort of see why non-dog people want to place lots of restrictions on dogs (never see them in public etc).

The first and most annoying was when I took my pup to a cafe to have a coffee with my dad. There was a SWF (quite cute) running around OFF LEAD in probably the most busy shopping area in my suburb. The road is very busy as well. To make matters worse, the owners of this dog then sat at the table next to us and did not bother to leash their dog. I had tied my puppy up and she was sitting nicely but this dog kept running up to her and begging for food at our table. The man then had the nerve to start up a converstaion with me about my puppy. He said he wanted "one of those" (mindy) because his dog was "too pansy and delicate" for his liking

I asked him if he could put his dog on a lead because my dog was trying to learn to sit quietly around distractions. He said "oh well, this is good practice for her then" (having SWF run around her) and also said he didn't believe in using leads, if you need a lead to control them, your obviously not a good trainer

Anyway, we had a very quick coffee, Mindy did very well and pretty much ignored the annoying dog, except when it came up to her face, at which point I had to physically remove it myself (owner didn't bother to help).

I then saw a lady at the park hit her dog with a tennis racket because it growled at a dog that had come up to say hi

I saw someone not pick up their dogs faeces and asked them to pick it up, even offered a bag, she said "eww i'm not picking that up, you pick it up if you're so keen, i think it is disgusting" This in a park where kids and dogs sometimes share

A man tried to kick my puppy.We were in an off leash park, there were no other dogs around and he went up to her and went to kick her. I ran over and was outraged but he said my PUPPY had provoked him and tried to jump on him and he would see me in court if i did anything about it

Mindy actually thought it was a game and did try to jump, after he tried to kick her.

APparently he has done this to other peoples dogs too :D

Gosh! Sounds like a shocker of a week!

I am developing a (deserved) relationship for not taking any cr*p at my dog park, one of the ladies I walk with there told me proudly the other day that she "did a Fran" and politely asked another dog owner to stop their larger, strange dog (ie, not one of the regulars) jumping all over / dominating her little dog. I do attempt the utmost politeness and congeniality at all times where appropriate of course.

That is a bad week! I've had a couple of bad experiences at leash free areas in my time. Many years ago when I lived in Sydney (near Bankstown) I was in a fenced leash free dog area throwing a ball for my 2 dogs when I saw a young man and a little boy approaching with 2 dogs on lead (one was only a baby, maybe 10 weeks old). I went to put mine back on lead but he didn't go near the gate to enter the area so I kept throwing the ball. As he was walking past the fence one of my dogs went over and sniffed his dog through the fence and sure enough a fight broke out. I wasn't really worried at first as there was a fence between them and his dog was on a lead so after my dog ignored my calls I walked over there to grab my dog (corgiX). As I approached him I began to think why isn't he just pulling his dog away from the fence? I looked at him to see a huge smile on his face while watching his dog! I lost it and said to get his #*%#^ dog away from the fence. Then he told his dog to 'get it' and was slapping her on the back legs! (i imagine to work her up even more) All this with his little brother (I found this out during the ensuing argument) watching and holding on the the puppy! Both of his dogs were PB and he told me that he was going to let her in so she could kill my dogs. Thankfully there was a lady nearby playing with some kids and she came closer to see what was happening and after we both told him we were calling the police he left. It was so scary and I went home in tears. There are SO many people out there that should not have dogs. He is the kind of person that gives PB's a bad name.

we thought oh its a nice day lets take our dogs to the beach. I NEVER let my dogs off i had a rotti and more for the stress reasons of letting him off i just did not do it.

so we have a nice walk down the beach, on the way back there is a beagle totally loose cant see an owner there is people 100m plus up the beach.

so we move away from the beagle up to the deep sand and up the track. so we get a little way up the track and the beage is following so i yell someone come and get there dog (they would have been 50m or so up the beach) and no one comes so im trying desperatly to keep my dogs from anywhere near this dog my rotti is extreamly domminate with other dogs.

anyways my daughter tries to catch him as he goes up too her nope, next min my dog had him pinned to the floor (with a halti on) did not hurt it or nothing, i think it was more like a back off now i have had it. i just called his name he let go was less then 10 secs this all happened and finally the dog run off and left us.

i was so so mad, i do the right thing and this damm beagle owner could have had there dog killed if my dog was not so obediant. (i think he did it as it was a protect the kids and me) he never hurt it but just told this dog to go away.

then some guy was trying to call it but i dont think it was the owners i think they just knew the dog.

this beach is dogs must be under control at all times. i was soooooo mad

And I also handed out a poo bag to a couple of young girls with their pitbulX, as it after it poo'd right near the children's play equipment. They also were not prepared to pick up the poo.

These are the sort of people that make it sooooooooo hard for the responsilbe dog owners!!!!!!!!!!!

My god what a terrible week for you, especially the last incident. I can only hope that things will get better and not worse - such irresponsible people and here you are trying to do the right thing. At least you know that you are doing the right thing.

oh i know this one too well.

Oh yeah I hear you on this one! I had a Bullmastiff x shepherd, and like you I always kept him on the lead as he is so big.... and the number of times I had people with dogs off leads approach us and not put their dogs back on lead- it was soooo frustrating, especially as my boy was unpredictable with other male dogs, and I was trying to do the right thing.

I hate it when people don't clean up after their dogs. Often I find dog poop on my nature strip, which gives me the absolute $#*!$. How to spread disease.....

I stand by my comment on another thread, there should be a license we have to apply for to be dog owners. We should have to prove our worthiness and responsibility at the time of purchasing....

LOL i was thinking about this time i took my dog out for a walk with my brother and partner all the kids etc. anywhos i just finish saying how my dog never poo's on walks and you guessed it he does it 1st time ever LOL in 7.5 years.

i was like damm no bags so i make my oldest run up the rd about 100m to get a doggy poo bag and as i was preg made my hubby pick it up

ps i agree i hate taking kids to the park and finding land mines

Years ago I took Jessie (now at the "Bridge") to the beach in the afternoon. I was sitting on the beach with a pile of stones throwing them into the water for Jessie. A guy and his Kelpie arrive and guy plonks his stuff down not far up the beach from me. Meanwhile Kelpie is having a crap. Guy is watching, but doesn't attempt to pick it up. I would have out to him, but he was a bit too far away to probably be heard. Guy and Kelpie jog off up the beach ;) I told Jessie to "stay", marched up the beach, bagged the offending poo and was going to place it beside the guy's sports bag, but the "Devil" made me put it inside his bag :D I sprinted back to Jessie and we both high-tailed it out of there

I wish that I could have seen the look on his face when he opened his bag

Bully that's hilarious. This thread was getting me down but that just cracked me right up

Had my own (semi) bad experience today too . Just started out on our walk when we got bailed up by a little SBT pup. She was gorgeous but jumped all over me, covered me in mud and I ended up tangled in Kei's leash with him bouncing around going "OMG puppy!!"

Took her to the vet, no chip, no reports of missing dogs on their system or the councils, no record of her so they couldn't keep her there in case she was unvaccinated. No collar, no ID. The vet nurse told me to take her home for the night and bring her back in the morning if neither of us could locate her owner.

After an hour of door knocking in the dark -and responses ranging from "If you had a stick you could smack it and it would go home"(WTF!), "Nah not mine but I'll take her", "Oh no, my dog roams but he always comes back" I finally found a nice lady who guided me through all the houses in the street and narrowed it down to 2. I finally found the owner and he tells me she is 5 months old and has been gone since Saturday!!

He was grateful to see her and thanked me for bringing her home. Said he had been looking for her everywhere. Bloody hell though, he can't have looked that far if he didn't call the vet or the council and she was found one block over!! He got a stern lecture on exactly WHY he should have her chipped though!

Then to top it off my brother arrives to stay for 2 nights, brings his dog with no food, no bed, no coat (and its freezing overnight here atm). I had to race around to mums with a bed and a coat, asked about food and he says "nah, he's right. I just fed him a packet of sausages for tea"

I took Akira to a different dog park than usual on Saturday. We had an old lady there who was going on about how her AWL black and white fluffy thing sits in the car when she goes shopping and TOOTS ON THE HORN when he thinks she's been in there long enough (how IRRESPONSIBLE can you GET?) and a couple with a Golden Retriever x Poodle pup who was 13 weeks old and so submissive that she would just roll over if Akira even came near. If my dog was that submissive, I wouldn't be taking them to a dog park for socialisation where you have no clue about what dogs are around and there's no one who knows what they're doing to control the situation. I'd be taking the pup to actual puppy classes where there's an instructor to help at least. It's a sure way to scar the poor pup for life, IMO.

Gosh, I'm so sorry you had such a bad week! I have a story that might make you laugh ... our neighbour has a terrier that is constantly escaping from her house. Frequently it shows up in our front yard. It poops on our front yard and the neighbour never cleans it up! The dog has a real nerve because then when it sees me looking at it from our front window, it barks at me Yesterday, i went out with the intention of cleaning up the poop from the yard and couldn't find it - until I realised that not only had I inadvertently stepped in it - I had proceeded to walk it all over the front path and into the carport
