geo
The 'No' vote needs more support, banning dogs is not the answer.
poodlefan
Here we go. Owner has no idea of the breed but calls for ban on the obvious. Poll done and comment made.
Kody's_Mum
Voted too, and agree that banning the breed is not the solution!
Teebs
Is ACT the only place without it? Off to vote

Just for curiosity sake do you (any ACT people*) see many out and about or at training etc? Edited July 20, 2010 by GeckoTree
perryamstaffs
The Northern Territory also Teebs.Does anyone know how popular the APBT is in the ACT? Just for curiosity sake do you (any ACT people*) see many out and about or at training etc? i remember years ago i was at a dog club in canberra for my new pup at the time their was a pure breed red nose pitty he had just completed his final obedience trials for ud and won the trial in his class he magnificent to watch they are great working dogs and will please their owners to the end of the earth if they are brought up with training and socialisation with other animals the person gave me some great advise on training at the time which i will never forget, it doesn't matter the breed it is the time you put into training and socialisation that matters was one of the things he told me, anyway back to the question when i was living in canberra 5yrs ago pitbulls were very popular in my area (belconnen) it is just a shame that sooo many of they beautiful dogs i knew had bad owners they were still beautiful dogs and friendly but were not walked enough they just go in the car with them everywhere cause they "look big and tough" i really hate people who get dogs for looks which is why unfortunatly why most people get pitbulls cause they look tough and they think people will not hurt them if they have this dog, little do they know that people who know these dogs know how much of a sook they can be and wont bite you. ;)
WreckitWhippet
Black is not the suburban Pit Bull fanciers colour of choice. It would be highly unusual to see two of them.
Curlybert
Does anyone know how popular the APBT is in the ACT? Just for curiosity sake do you (any ACT people*) see many out and about or at training etc? I have to say I rarely see them being walked by their owners - my main exposure to them is at the Canberra Dog Pound where they are over-represented as strays. Obviously they are a dog that needs lots of exercise and positive stimulation and these pitties don't get it alone in the backyard, so they take off. Having said that, the vast majority of pound pits I have met are cheerful dogs and no more dog aggressive than any other breed that may be holed up in the pound. And I have never seen a black pitbull at DAS - they are usually tan or caramel - the red nose variety.
wuffles
I see a fair few around. There is one that roams an oval OH plays sport on, and despite having complete idiots as owners, she is lovely. The first time we met her she came over and play bowed at my dog. The last thing I read about this was that there was going to be a "line up" at DAS as two likely dogs had been identified, does anyone know the outcome? aussielover
while it is tragic that the little dog was attacked and badly injured, surely people realise any large size dog could inflict the same amount of damage if they wanted to. So should we ban all medium/large size dogs because they are potentially "loaded guns"?
