Bella T
Our British Bulldog is 9 months old and of recent, a visit to the local vet found that her right eye lid rolls so her eye lashes are irritating that eye causing it to water and some mild puffiness. Due to this, she has problems from time to time opening that eye. This problem is called Entropion. We have been advised to operate however wanted to hopefully get in contact with someone who has perhaps been through this before or can offer any advice. Thank you in advance..
Remarkabull
My sister-in-law had the same problem with her SBT. The poor dog looked really uncomfortable and it was obviously very irritated, it must have been very annoying for him. They had the surgery and it's been fine ever since. Better to get it fixed asap so less damage is done to the eye and for the comfort of the dog.
Babesmum
hi there, I have an Aussie Bulldog who the same thing. It's very common with breeds that have excess skin esp. around their face. I haven't had Babe's repaired yet, but intend to do it soon as the constant rubbing can lead to scarring and eventually loss of eyesight. Good luck! Cheers! Best to do something sooner rather than later as the rubbing can cause ulcers and sometimes permanent damage. Find an eye specialist or at the very least at vet who is experienced in the procedure. If done wrong you can end up with problems. There is also the option of tacking with temporary stitches if your dog is not finished growing yet. I've got bulldogs too, we are taking my bro' inlaws dog (we've not long become carers) to get his cherry eye removed tomorrow. I guess having entropion operated on would be similar to getting the cherry eye done . The vet we are using is Rosalie @ Gladesville Vets & she was highly recommended by alot of bulldog people. If your in Sydney might pay to give her a call. But definately get something done sooner rather then later, it definately is not a very nice thing for them to go through. Good luck Moko. Entropion surgery involves the eyelid, whilst cherry eye involves the gland in the corner of the eye. They are different surgeries. I've experienced cherry eye on a few occasions and reccommend stitching it into a pocket and for the record, have never had one reoccur. Always get an experienced vet, otherwise you could have trouble. I've not had entropion in my dogs but do know what it looks like, it really irritates the dog and, if not repaired, can severely damage your dogs eye. I'd suggest getting it done asap as the sooner it's done, the less pain your dog would be in. But once again make sure the vet's done it before as it can go the other way also, and the eyelid can roll out too much. Fingers crossed for your pup, and hope it gets fixed quickly.
