OSoSwift
I have asked the help of two friends that have a reasonable amount of Whippets between them. Some are show/pet whippets, some are race fit Whippets. I will let you know what they come back as when I find out. There should be a good dozen I think. But really though, the guides that we have for 'average' resting heart rate are just that - guides. It's a matter of knowing what your dog's normal heart rate is really. Agreed Stormie, that is why I had their resting heart and respiration rates noted and written in the front of my diary. I have taken them around 4 or so times over a period of months so I get a good idea of their average.
Dagmar
The heartrate is what I have checked, they didn't give me a number. I have checked it over a few different occasions as I like to know what normal is so I can tell when it is not normal. I have used a stethoscope and a femoral pulse. I am glad to hear you are checking their heart rate, etc. on a regular basis. I recommend to my clients to do that all 2 or 4 weeks and keep note. Only then you will know what is normal for your dog. And only then you will know, if things get abnormal. Dagmar
Greytmate
Heart rate will depend on the dog's mood. It is normal for greyhounds going into a race kennel on race night to have a rate over 100. No physical exertion, just nervous anticipation.
