people need to go on the look and feel of their dog and not a kilo amount as it can vary between each dog so much.

An adult male GSD that is within size to the standard would be expected to weigh 35-40 kg at maturity. My boys have usually stayed in that range and I worked at keeping their weight stable. My last boy was top sized and he stayed at 37 or 38 kg right up till he passed away at 11 years old, still with great hips and hocks.

I must say it concerns me when I hear about them being in the 50kg range as this is obviously too heavy or else the dogs are being bred too big.

the standard is written to try and keep the breed at their optimum height weight ratios.

My GSD girl Zoe is 3yo and she is small, only weighs 32kg.. She is pretty slim and muscular though...

65cm and 36kgs

they all vary and is also dependant on the workload they endure.

I can safely say that Tilly's dogs aren't 'too heavy' for their frame - nor the work dogs i'm in regular contact with - they are just big chunky muscly proportionate heavy build dogs. I'd love to put several of the work dogs i know into the ring...but for all that it's my preferred type (chunky muscly heavy but in proportion build) it would likely see me at the end of the line-up - not that it would worry me or be the first/last time!

ETA - the Standard is also perhaps more of interest to those intending on entering the show ring - to others the whole of the Standard may not be of as high importance, rather certain attributes having more importance then others.

And at the end of the day, if you are happy with your dogs weight, and it is healthy and fit, then that is what is important

I was just curious about their size because of their weight.

I have a small sized female and she is 16 months old and seems to be sitting consistently on 26.5KG now for the last few months.

I don't think she sounds small sized, sounds just right to me I had my 2x 15 month old bitches, who measured 59cm and 60cm at their last show a month ago, weighed this week and they were both 25kg. I expect they will put a bit more weight on as they bulk up as they mature.
