Hopefully there has been no lasting damage, and she will be OK. Did you report the incident ? redangel Posted July 13, 2010 Share Posted July 13, 2010 Ill add that we all do whatever we can to keep our dogs safe in the time of attack...desperate measures have to be taken to avoid things much worse- my fathers wife once threw their min poodle over a fence to avoid the jaws of a GSD intent on eating him. He was winded badly and was sore for a few days but this dog had killed before and the consequence could have been soo much worse. Hoping for a positive vet visit. When I told Brett how I yanked her he said I wouldn't have known my own strength with something like that. I probably could've lifted a bus. He listened to her airways and gently examined her throat and neck and even tested her with some liver treats to see how she swallowed. She did show a bit of difficulty but managed to eat them. She has some swelling that makes her look like one of those bos indicus cows with the dewlap, but he thinks it's all just soft tissue damage. He said the only way to really know is to knock her out and he thinks it's not warranted at this stage. He said the cartliage felt normal so he's given her an antiinflam injection and she's to have soft food for the next few days. Thankfully she looks to be OK. Lucky she's in such good health, if she was a frail old girl (she's 11 1/2) it could've been much worse. I told Brett how I was so angry I was imagining myself tearing the dogs jaws from it's head. He smiled and said it's unlikely I'd manage it, but did say if ever a dog is latched onto one of mine squeeze it's airways right up at the junction of head and neck. Dont try to prise the jaws apart cause you'll just get bitten, go for the airways and it will eventually have to take a gasp. I hope it never comes to that. How old is Prinny and do you know her breeding, they might be related. Penny is a pedigree but there's not much around these days with her bloodlines. Less chance of being bitten and less chance of injury to the dog being attacked than if thay are pulled apart. I hope you still report it. Not much pedigree in poor Prinny I'm afraid Prinny (Princess - her name already) is my latest rescue from Blacktown Pound last month after being surrendered by her family.
