When I lost my beautiful 10yr old black lab boy Fitzy in Sep last year, I received a lovely card and one of those gorgeous My Angel Pet Pins which is a pewter dog with a gold halo and wings from the holistic vet who was holistically treating him for his Cancer in conjunction with the chemo treatment he was receiving at the Specialist Vet Clinic. She was so wonderfully supportive throughout this devastating time, that I actually asked her to PTS my beautiful boy ;) when the time came rather than use my normal vet as I was pretty pissed with them. The card has a very touching message  from her and was signed by all staff at her clinic. My normal vet who I had been using for over 20 years and had been treating Fitzy since he was a puppy never sent me anything :D and they also never sent me anything when I lost my darling black lab girl Cassie, prior to getting Fitzy. ;)

I think the least a Vet Clinic can do when one of their clients pet's pass away is to send them a card.

Lynda I am so sorry for your loss of your GR  :D

Its exactly 50 weeks since we lost our beautiful Cassie  to algae poisoning last year. Our vet fought tooth and nail to save her for us but in the end the damage to her kidneys was just so far gone that even if he had saved her then, she would have had very little quality of life. We, in conjunction with our vet, made the only choice we could  Then our vet surgery was very helpful, they organised a cremation, on the day all we received was a beautiful rosewood box with her ashes - which was wonderful because it reduced the exposure to extra trauma and we were already traumatised.

Then after about 10 tens we received the most beautiful card from them, from the vet and all his staff. And to this day they have not forgot her, they, like us, still talk as though she is still here at home.

I just feel that its those personal touches that make or break you at a time like that.

Lynda I am so sorry for you loss of your beloved Goldie ;) Words dont cover it at a time like this but know that like Labsrule, we and many others, do understand.

My vet broke my trust of him on my girls last day. He seemed distracted and then said he couldn't talk long as he had to go and vaccinate a puppy. I felt, and still feel, guilty because I asked specifically for him because our girl seemed to like him.

That's the condensed version anyhow.

When we got home there was a reminder for a cartrophen injection.

A few days later we did get a printed card signed by all of the staff. It went in the bin because only one of the staff members showed us any compassion, despite on the day there being 2 vets and 2 vet nurses there that we had known for a long time. The third vet nurse, who was lovely, we had never met before. I will always appreciate her kindness, but cant return to the clinic.

We now go to another clinic, that is associated with the other one but has different staff and they are all lovely.

Last week I had to have my Golden Ret PTS for health reasons, but today I received a lovely card from the Vet and nurses expressing their condolences over my loss. I really thought it was a lovely gesture and really appreciated it, I dont know if other vets do this

Lynda

We had to have a bitch of ours PTS last yr at only 6mths of age :rofl::rofl: .

The vet hospital we use were just awesome throughout the whole experience even went as far as sending us a card signed by all the staff ;):)

My husband & I were really touched by it & couldn't thank them enough for all they did to help us through that dreadful time.

Big :):laugh: to the Staff @ Quakers Hill Vet Hospital.

We get cards from our clinic. They have also been very good when we've had to have someone pts.

A lovely touch from Werribee (the teaching hospital) when we had to put Pockets to sleep. They took her from me to take her and get her ready to take home. I gave them a blanket to wrap her in, which they did but they also had like a burial "cover" for her. It was a beautiful blue "envelope" with an end that folded over and was fastened with a gold tassle. It was a lovely touch that showed they understood she wasn't "just a dog",

When my boy Max died after complications from eye surgery, the vet who operated on him rang me the following dya and cried her eyes out and apologised for what happened and then for making me cry. I heard she was distraught about it but she didn't even do anything to cause it. I never got a bill and they sent me a card and Max's lead and collar, that was left at the clinic when he was transfered to the specialist.

I was fortunate to have a very caring vet team helping me with Sophie when she had cancer. After she was put to sleep by my vet, the oncology team at the specialist referral centre sent a card with lovely personal messages from all who had cared for her on her many visits over the months. I also received a beautiful card from my vet signed by all the staff.

The day after I received the cards a lovely hand written letter arrived from my vet. He loved Sophie and always said she was his favourite. Even now, almost 22 months later, when I read that beautiful letter it makes me cry. He knew her so well and mentioned many of her special qualities and endearing traits. She was always a good girl at the vets.

When I take one of my dogs to see our vet and Sophie's name is mentioned he always says 'Sophie was special". She sure was.

I write alot of these cards (sadly) & I put all my heartfelt condolences into each one, knowing the pain all too well myself after losing Misty.

I try to make them as personal as I can.

Each dog & cat is special.

When I received a card after our first ridgy was PTS, I was surprised & bawled my eyes out!! It was the most beautiful thing.....The same vet sent a card after out dear old cat was also PTS. These are both special cards that have been kept and every now and then I will look at them.

Last year when we had to have a weanling lamb euthanised I was pleasantly surprised to get a lovely hand written card from a different vet - one used for the bigger animals.

Earlier this year we were devastated when we had to have our darling old mare PTS, it was a nightmare to find a vet to come out asap as she was in so much pain. I would go back to this vet in a flash if need be, they were sooooooo compassionate! And yes a few days later we got another beautiful card in the mail for the loss of Sal!

It would be so easy for these vets to use a pre printed card and just add their Dear *****, From the Vet - but none of them have. Each card has been filled with caring words that meant something!

We got a card, which really impressed me because we got to a quite large practice. Despite the fact they have about 5 vets working there and we don't always see the same one, they always ask all the right questions about my dogs. They always seem to know where we're at and ask quite specific things that show they are abreast of what's going on with our pets. The message in the card was very thoughtful.

My mum's vet cleared his surgery for an hour when she had to put our old cat to sleep. He booked her as the sole appointment for a whole hour so she didn't have to deal with other people and pets and could take as long as she liked with him. She said they darkened the surgery and left her for as long as she wanted. They sent a card a week later.
