pie
I taught it to Kyzer with a clicker and a phone book, basically the same way Caffy did but a plank would be better if you're doing perch work too He does crazy backwards walking towards it with his legs flying everywhere, cracks me up. Still supermans over his dogwalk contact in trials though  Superglue perhaps... lol Trixie was taught to do nose touches on a target, then target was moved to the end of the lowered A frame at home from when she was little, then it was backchained as she got older, she has a pretty solid contact performance, however she has only just started trialling, hopefully she doesn't catch on to the fact that she won't get fed in position in the ring like Kyzer did! RubyStar
I have to laugh at Trixie's contacts, I noticed even in a trial she nose touches the ground I might play with nose touches for Pippa on a target, too, but will definitely do some rear end awareness. I started her on a little book thing on the floor to get her to place her front feet on it so I could then progress to doing turns on it with her back feet. I might keep doing this but will also shape her to target it with her back feet.

Yeah not sure why because in training my criteria is her being 2o2o, not doing a nose touch, she just does it for bonus points (or looking for snacks more like lol)

pie
Don't jinx me! It says this on her site: Good news! My new training DVD is almost ready! And it’s a really fun one: almost 2 hours of suggestions how to get more speed out of your dog! We’ll be discussing conditioning, building the right attitude, different games to play, how to deal with stress and how to make agility just another game and all about the running. You’ll learn some new games to play, how to teach a dog to stress up instead stressing down, everything on my magic “ajde ajde” word and the power of voice. Sounds pretty good
RubyStar
I like the sound/look of it for games to play with Pippa and her agility. She's being pretty good about finding it fun to chase me. Hope she doesn't hit the teenage stage and give me the middle finger! If she gets slightly distracted I just take off running in the other direction and she comes running after me, too cute
Kavik
He brought the tug back What he has been doing is just standing there holding the tug, not looking at me. I have been waiting him out, just sitting down, so that it is not fun when he is just holding it, and having a party and a big game when he brings it back (verbal 'good' when he looks at me and takes a step towards me, verbal 'yes' and game when he gets to me). Slowly he has been getting the idea, would take a step then stop then a step then stop etc. This morning he brought it back in pretty much one go! Not yet punching me in the stomach with it saying 'play with me! ' but a good start!
RiverStar-Aura
I have a question about getting involved in agility. Do you have to have a pure bred dog to compete in agility trials? I ask because I've got a beagle x JRT who'd be absolutely fantastic at the sport -- he's very gangly but graceful and jumps like a gazelle. I'd love to get him into agility but not sure where to start. Also, do agility clubs let people do the sport just for fun? Because even if we don't compete, I think it'd be awesome for him! pie
No you can register your dog as an associate member for trials, and before then you can certainly join a club and train

RubyStar
Holy friggin' moly!! I was searching for agility videos of mini schnauzer's and came across 2 gobsmacking videos! One was of a black mini schnauzer, the other of a malinois. They breed and train them fast over there!!!! RallyValley
My Brittany had a growth spurt so it's the 500 class for us and not with you in boosting 400 numbers AP. RS I love watching Brittany Youtube clips! It's (usually ) very inspirational! RubyStar
Great video, RV! It sure picked up some speed in the straighter bits and wow look at how many rear crosses the woman threw in! I'm jealous of those who can rear cross, I can't with my girls Would help if I trained it I guess But they just don't drive far enough ahead of me to get any in!! RallyValley
When I used to run Toby rear cross was the only cross we could do - we have always been useless at front crosses.
RubyStar
I'm hoping I can pull some rears off with Pippa
OSoSwift
I find rear crosses easier with mine, especially Lewis. Rommi is a little easier to front cross as she tends to watch a bit more and isn't as fast - and when I have to run three one after the other I say thank goodness for that! RubyStar
It's really hard to rear cross Labs who keep looking back at you and won't move too far ahead unless they see a straight line of jumps
