pomchi
Hi everyone Link is now 13 weeks old and although she still cries and barks if I go outside or upstairs. at night she has been fantastic, usually barks a couple times then sleeps through till the morning but last night it was like we were starting from scratch, about 40 mins of barking. I checked that she had water, we left the heater on and the radio but she wouldn't settle. Does this ever happen to any one else s puppy?
aussielover
Yeah that happened with Mindy. I now spend a few minutes with her settling her into the crate making sure she is looking sleepy and not playing with her toys. Obviously it is not ideal and the crate training people with their perfect puppies will probably poo-poo this, but I would rather spend 10-15 mintues extra with her in the crate than listen to her carry on barking, howling etc for a couple of hours (i'm sure the neighbours appeciate it too). She is absolutely fine in the crate during the day, will not bark at all, so still not sure what is going on at night. I think as they get a bit older, they can try to start to test you, see what they can get away with etc. As long as there is nothing actually wrong (like she is cold, sick, needs to toilet etc), then you'll just have to ignore her. I think you might be right with her testing the boundaries, she stays in her playpen but we try to make sure she is tired out when we put her to bed.hopefully she will go back to being a quiet puppy at night so she doesn't drive the neighbours and us crazy. sas
I probably would have got up when there was a break int he barking taken the dog outside to the toilet, come back in, pu the dog back in its' crate and gone back to bed and ignored any noise from there. Dogs only try that sort of behaviour on when they think they have a half a chance of getting your attention....have you gone to her when she's been whinging or barking? No we never go to her at night, she stays in her playpen and she has been trained to go on pee pads so we dont have to take her out to toilet, she just started up with the barking for no apparent reason, then last night she was an angel, not even a sound. Guess she was just trying her luck. Hopefully she has learnt that it doesn't work ( fingers crossed)
