My 16 week old tibetan spaniel is doing really well, he always poops outside but he wees inside on his wee pads. The only time he has an accident is if we come home and he gets a little too excited :p If i take the wee pads away he tends to use the matt at the bottom of the stairs. and if i put the wee pads outside they get blown around they become his chew toys. How can i get him to wee outside? in the same place he poops?

Just allocate an area where you would like him to go. Then take him to the area on a lead. Reward when he goes. Don't reward if he goes anywhere else (he shouldn't if he is on lead).

Does he toilet on command? this is very useful and quite easy to teach.

Initially, just as they are beginning to pee (or poo) say the words "quick quick" or "hurry up" or whatever. We used to say "do wee wees" but that is a bit embarssasing in public!

Then reward them. If you do this consistently they will soon associate the words with the action, just like any command.

As you get to know your pups behaviour better, start saying it just before you know they will go- eg when sniffing on the ground etc.

My pup was doing it on command within a week.

Competition horses are trained to pee by whistling! You could probably do this with dogs too.

What we did was say "Do you need to go toilet?" as we took him outside, then as he toileted we'd use our cue word which was "quick toilet" and would repeat it each time he did his business outside. Now at 9 months if we ask him if he needs to go toilet, he runs to the back door to go outside and does his business on his own. If he fluffs around heaps running around and being annoying i'll give him the command and he'll stop messing about and go to the loo  A bit like a child really..
