Rehoming A Dog

Hi

I have a dog that we rescued but turns out my daughter is allergic to her. I'm wondering how to go about rehoming her

I do not care about getting money for her just want the best home

But have been told that its best to ask for some, ‘if they can not pay for the dog they can not afford to have a dog’ is what I have been told

What are your views on this?

Things that I have thought to ask:

Has to be an inside dog

At least 30minute walk/run each day

Good fencing

Is to be a companion not outside and alone

Be willing to brush at least every second day

About our girl:

Sweet, sweet sweet, a love bunny

Is a rescue girl, can raid the bin if not feed on time

If left alone will do a Harry Houdini

Lots of energy, but wonderful to live with in the house

Is now crate trained,

Loves every one and every thing (well maybe birds better be careful around this girl)

Not aggressive or dominate, but can be stubborn if she thinks she can get away with it.

Is there any thing else I need to ask or say to people

Is she a pedigree or a cross? There may be a breed club that also does rescue.

Did you get her from a rescue group? They may be able to help

to be honest was not inpressed with the condition of her when we got her from the last person she was with, so not going back there

A pedigreed dog will find a home pretty easily I would think? You can contact Troy about putting her in the "Mature Dogs" or "Rescue" classifieds.

Has she had any training? For example does she know "sit" and walk well on a leash? These are often big bonuses for people.

My suggestion is to write a nice profile for her and then post in the rescue section so that one of the rescuers can put her on petrescue.com.au. Also ask a few rescuers who live in your area to put her on their "Private Rehoming" pages. Petresceu.com.au has some great advice for writing profiles that get noticed (eg focus on what kind of family she would suit and what she can offer an owner ie not only a list of "demands" from the dogs pov).

Check out the rescue thread and towards the top are some iders under

Pinned: Guidelines For Posting In The Rescue Forum

(including help on re-homing your dog)

It gives some idea plus where to advertise.

Post in rescue too as someone may even be looking for/have a good home available for a lovely red setter

Is she desexed?

Yes, now thank goodness as she was on main papers,

think she has had at least one small litter as teats are slightly pronounced

she is only now 23months

Might only mean she experienced a season.

I'm confused about why your daughter is allergic to one dog but not another. You have a golden retriever too? Is that common for people to only react to one dog?

i would think that would be very unusual. most people are allergic to dander and or saliva which all dogs have :)

I do not understand it ether,

she reacts to most short haired dogs, newfs and a few other breeds that we have come in contact with

but does not have a prob with the goldie

we have changed the English's food and shampoo to see if that helped but to no good
