Tilly - of course i'm giving him lots of sympathy/cuddles/etc I took the collar off and took him for a walk while keeping a firm grip on the lead and an eagle eye out for any "I'm going to rub my eye with my paw" movements. There were a couple but he only got in a couple of actual swipes before I jerked his head away. A kind lady held him while I was in the shop and made sure he didn't rub it Apparently Pepper gave her lots of kisses and Tango snuggled into her. It's back on now and he's sleeping. Be very careful with the bucket though - we had someone take their dog's bucket off 'only while she was watching' and the dog managed to pull some stitches out! matilda1 Posted July 3, 2010 Share Posted July 3, 2010 Poor Tango hang in there, sometimes you have to be a little bit cruel to be kind. it will be worth it in the end, and usually they do get used to the collar within a day or two. If he really really really hates it you cn get soft collars. I have seen them but am not sure where to get them from, probably a good pet supply store? And I echo the psot above 'don't be tempted to take that collar off' It takes 2 seconds to undo those stitches and cause damage. It's a lot harder to find an alternative when it's the face/eye involved. I like this one but I suspect he'd still be able to do damage with this on too - but I might get one and have it on hand for other surgery issues. spottychick Posted July 5, 2010 Author Share Posted July 5, 2010 In case anyone's interested I thought I'd just mention that I've contacted the vet and they've never heard of them but the admin lady is ringing her "drug company" to see if they've got them and calling me back. Meanwhile I emailed provisor australia for help - don't know if that will get me anywhere but we're getting desperate here. Poor old pepper now has a cut on her face where Tango accidentally bashed the sharp edge of the collar into her. And the cone is now ......wait phone's ringing OH WOW! Just got a call from the vet and their supplier is bringing in two optivisors tomorrow - one medium and one large (we cant work out which he'll need!!!) so I can buy one. I am stunned and I can't wait to get it for him! Yay!!!! My vet rocks :rolleyes: And they don't cost much more than the usual cone thing. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Kirty - Tango is already squashing the Eliz Collar against things and rubbing his eye. He is a resourceful fella. I'll see how it goes tomorrow but I sure hope it works because this other one certainly isn't. He's now broken it again, he's filled it with dirt, because dallys walk with their noses to the ground he can barely get two steps down the road without catching the cone on the ground and stumbling, he bashes into everything and has damaged furniture, the oven, Pepper and me. He can't sleep with it on properly, can't curl up, can't scratch his neck, he's getting rub rashes around his neck from it etc etc An absolute nightmare and there's no way we'll survive 2 weeks of this! It sticks out in front of his face about an inch which clearly makes it harder for him. Maybe it's too big or something. Seriously it's the worst contraption I've ever encountered so this other thing REALLY better work or I'll be asking for sedatives - for me!!! I'd sent him a pic of Tango in the Liz/Buster collar to give him an idea of his size and he said the Buster collar the vet put on him is way TOO BIG for Tango which is why he's having an extraodinarily difficult time of it. Anyway, I'll let people know how he goes with the optivisor or "novaguard" I think is it's proper name once I get it - for those who are interested LOL I hope someones interested hee hee otherwise I'm talking to myself - which is nothing new :D Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

"yes" says the woman "a medium and a large" So I drove all the way there across ice covered mountain roads only to be told on arrival that they'd only just "checked the package" and the visors weren't in it!!!! Giggle Oooops! They might be in later or tomorrow she says!!!! The bloody woman then goes to walk off into the back room leaving me standing there. I called her back and asked her if she could at least help me measure tango's head properly as it's easier with two people so I would have a more accurate idea of the size he needs (for whenever they do actually arrive) She says "Sorry I'm in the middle of training for book-keeping so no I can't. Do it yourself". Oh of course! I wouldn't want to interrupt your TRAINING just for the sake of the proper care of my dog!!! Silly me! I was/am flabbergasted. Never has my flabber been so gasted!!!! There was no-one else there and she disappeared so I had no option but to get back in the car and drive all the way home again empty-handed. Petrol, stress, time, money - all wasted. And poor Tango has now busted the Buster collar even more so that there are jagged pieces and bits of masking tape over the whole thing. But I told her that, pointing out that I thought it was now dangerous for him to wear and she just said "Well can't you just take it off him and just watch him carefully???" Say what? ALL the time? I think the Optovisor was on The Inventors (or New Inventors) a while ago and I did post here. The guy invented it because his dogs had continual problem with his eyes and needed protection. Especially after I got home and checked the phone and realised she hadnt even tried to call me to let me know there weren't there - knowing full well I was driving in to get them. The cow was so intent on learning her book-keeping she simply didn't care. Training is great but she's actually being paid to look after clients isn't she???? I've actually taken the horrible masking-tape-cone-thing-from-hell off him for the moment. He is so HAPPY!!! But I'm having to watch him with an eagle eye. He ran into the study after eating without it for the first time in days and jumped into his bed looking at me and sort of kneading the bedding with his front paws in a piston-like motion - a bit like a cat does. I think he was just incredibly happy and that was how he expressed it. Or maybe it was asking me not to put it back on as I had it in my hand thinking about it.....(he does the front leg piston dance when he's asking for food so it's definitely a communication thing for him). I just couldn't bring myself to stick it back on him so soon. For the first half hour he lay in his bed and licked himself all over, paying particular attention to the bit on his leg where they shaved his hair off. I can imagine how good it feels to him, it'd be like us needing to scratch for days and finally having our hands released so we go nuts!!!!
