corvus
Seemed like a good time to compare notes re. tug toys. I seem to have a lot. Plaited polar fleece - both dogs are happy to tug on these Crash Test Toys custom tug - it's plaited fun fur with two sections that have sheepskin wrapped around and a bungee handle. It's pretty much the favourite. CTT makes very tough tugs. I love the bungee, because Erik will throw himself at it and swing off it. The bungee makes it a bit smoother for that kind of activity. CTT road hocky ball tug - this one was a dud for us. The balls are a wee bit too large for Erik's mouth and Kivi wasn't very interested. Rocket ring - a fleecey ring. Erik loves rings. He seems to like being able to chomp down and pull directly back rather than have the pressure on one side. Rope rings - 2 rope rings linked together so I hold one and Erik the other. He loves that thing, too. Likes me trying to drag him around the house by it. Moo tug - this one is fascinating. It's a milking cup on a rope. Both dogs love to chew it, but they seem so fascinated by the texture they would rather lie down and chew it slowly than tug on it. Knotty tug - I don't much like this one as it's a loose braid and I worry a tooth is gonna get caught. It has two handles. Both dogs like to chase it and tug on it, but it took Kivi a bit of warming to it. It's not one of the favourites. Pocket Sheepy tug on a ribbon - Erik loves this thing and I keep it in my walking bag. He is a bit over the softness, though. It was good when he was a puppy, but now he just wants to bite the handle rather than the sheepskin. Giant monkey puppet - this is the all time favourite of both dogs. Kivi dug it out of a pile of junk during roadside cleanup and promptly lay down on the side of the road to chew on it. I figured no one wanted it so they may as well have it and the boys argued over who got to carry it home until I took it off them. Then they argued over who got to walk closest to it. It comes out occasionally. They love to tug on the floppy legs and bite the furry body. They have already pulled one leg off, so I don't think it will last long. Cosmolo
Clean run tugs are the best- we use the sheepskin bite bar, 2 handled rabbit fur tug and raccoons tail on a lead. Dogs love them! :D
Kavik
Kaos likes ones with real fur the best :D 2 handled woolly tug from Clean Run is his favourite http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseacti...mp;ParentCat=29 He also likes the raccoon tail and plaited fleece tugs, have yet to try out the tiger tail tug but I think he will like it as well. I also have some Skineez and he likes those - I am keeping those and the raccoon tail for tugging in new locations as they are exciting and new for him

Tassie
Plaited polar fleece or even better faux fur tugs. Their nice fleecy tug leads they got in WA. One of those tugs made of a mass of nylon strips plaited and knotted, with long bits hanging off each end (Rory's favourite for learning weaving using 2x2 - nice and heavy and easy for me to throw along the reward line. And Kong Wubba firends - ball, squeaky bit, and tails - Rory has a bear and Kirra has a rabbit. I've got some others, but these are the ones I use most. pie
Can you get the Raccoon tails sent to Aus? I always assumed Customs would confiscate them, man Trixie would LOVE one of those! Kyzer doesn't really tug, but Trixie likes in order of preference: Bunny fur Dynamite stick Skinneez toys Sheep tug (ball of sheepskin in end of a leather line) ETA: She also loves small Kong Wubba's but they all seem to have gone missing. Tassie
about the missing Kong Wubbas Amypie. One of the iSqueak balls I got from Ptolomy while I was in WA has gone missing - Rory raced down to the fence with it in his mouth, and I reckon it's rolled through the stock fencing and into the neighbour's place - probably into a large prickly grevillea bush. Vickie
Mine seem to be happy with just about anything. So long as they can get their mouth on it & it's big enough for me to hold it too...it's a tug! I do have a few toys that people have bought for them, but I rarely spend money on a tug toy, unless it's a lead as well. Some of our more obscure "tug" toys...garden hose, old towel, various items of clothing like socks, sleeves & knitted hats, old handbag, lots of outgrown kids toys, paper towel rolls, paint rollers etc.
pie
I have lost a couple of Wubbas over the fence in the past because Kyzer grabs the tail, does the 'terrier kill' and while he is thrashing it about he lets go and away it sails through the air...!
Tassie
@ Kyzer. Kirra likes doing the 'terrier' kill with her Wubba rabbit as well.

RubyStar
A Kong Wubba is what enticed Millie to finally swim for the first time! She couldn't resist retrieving it, even if it meant plunging into the ocean to get it
shoemonster
I watched a friend of mine strip down and get in the dam at kcc to get the wubba back! I also lost the material bit of one in the same dam, and 6 months later in summer when the water level was lower we were walking around the other side and all dried up in the mud we found it

Paulp
I only started playing tug with my boy at flyball as a special treat for a successful run, his special tug is a kong frisbee that has now had the middle torn out so is more of a donut. The only issue with this is that it puts my fingers in mortal danger!
Seita
French linen tug from K9pro gets a big thumbs up from me! I've used the jute tugs from dogquip too but they aren't durable enough to last more than a year with Ella and they only have one handle (I like 2) and they are a bit fat for anything smaller than a normal sized border collie. I've also got a katies bumpers firehouse tug which I HATE it's far to slippery. I find the plaited fleece tugs tend to be a bit on the thin side for Ella but I haven't really searched too much for a fat one. Ella will tug pretty much anything but really gets into it if it's soft enough to sink her teeth into and not too thin and not too fat. I like tugs that have softer handles as Ella really gets into her tugging, so no really stiff nylon and no rope for me. I don't give a stuff about colour and Ella doesn't seem to care either. My new puppy is currently learning to tug with a leather shammy which he loves! As he gets older I'll roll it up and turn it into more of a tug rather than a rag before progressing him to something like the french linen tug.
