Magstar
Oscar is now 13 weeks and I have bought him some Valuheart tablets for his heartworm prevention. Is it safe to start him on prevention at this age without testing for heartworm first? We have mosquitos at our place even in winter. Our vet mentioned that we should get started on prevention, but didn't mention anything about testing first.
Crisovar
He will be fine to start prevention straight up, no need to test him.

stormie
Yep - plus, the lifestage that the heartworm tests are able to detect, take 6months to develop from the time of infection, so a test now would be pointless anyway.
