Vaccanation

Hi everyone

I have just registered on here, so this is all new to me...So please bare with me !!!

I have recently purchased a blue englishy staffy ( roxy ) she is 10 weeks old at the moment, I purchased Roxy from a registerd breeder in QLD, as most of you on here probably know that the blues are not cheap..

When I brought her I was unaware that her vaccanation was being done by the owner , NOT done proffesionally by a vet...I only realised this when I took her to my local vet and showed them the Vacc card, which has not been signed by a vet or dated...So that is when I emailed the owner and she informed me that she vaccanates her own pups...

Does anyone know anything about vaccanations taken out by the owner, should I be trusting her word, really how do I know !!!

It really bugs me that when you pay top dollar for a dog you would expect everything to be done proffesionally...

The breeder took the pup into a vet to get her micro chipping done, and told me she had a check up done also...After I spoke to the vet where this was supposed to be done, I then realised that the check up was not done....

Who can you trust when buying a pup ??

I am currently still waitng for the registration papers also , and the puppy pack that was advertised , I never got, which i was told would be sent out..

I hope some one can shed me some light !!!

Hiya newbie! we were all there once.

It may be that the breeder was actually and in fact vaccinating her pups - did she stick the label from the vial on the card? Is there a note of the batch number on the card?

If it was the C3 vacc, then she probs purchased it on the net and inoculated them herself - not legal, but if the pups actually got the vacc then your vet just needs to continue the scheduled vaccs.

If there is no sticker and no batch then that is a concern... but do remember that it may be breaching client confidentiality for the breeder's vet to relay information to a third party.

This may be why you have not been able to confirm vet checks etc...

Or it may be that you need to contact the Kennel council for the state the breeder is in, find out if they are registered breeders, etc etc etc.

No, nothing unusual about breeders vaccinating there own pups. You can buy vaccines, in fact some companies advertise them.

They are killed vaccine. Only vets have access to live vaccine.

The breeder may be waiting for all the pups to be sold so they may register them directly into your name.

You did check with Dogs Queensland that this breeder is registered with them ?.

I'd be really disappointed with that situation too. First I'd be contacting DogsQld to make sure the person is a current registered breeder and check if the parents are main register dogs if you know their registered names (only registered dogs on the main register can have their pups registered). Next I'd ask the breeder to send you the cost of the vaccination you are going to have to get yourself now. I'm pretty sure you can threaten to report them to DogsQld if they aren't willing to give you the money as selling a unvaccinated pup is a breach of the rules.

Relevant bit of rules:

n. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under eight weeks of age, after undertaking a recognised vaccination regime. I shall provide a current vaccination certificate with any dog leaving my care;

As said previously, it's not uncommon to be waiting a while after getting your pup from Qld breeder to get the papers. You should have been provided with information on what to feed and other basics from the breeder, did you get anything?
