I think Esky is a fan of spitz breeds. She likes lappies (except the humpy one) and mals.

But she also has a boxer as a best friend, those two could zoomie until the cows came home!

I think it has more to do with the energy levels they can sense from the other dog.

Her best friend in puppy class was a Jack russell terrier. They were a cute pair.

We have only ever come across "plain old poodles" twice but each time they loved playing with the other Poodles. They do enjoy running around with the many lab x poodles we come across. My girl has a crush on a brown one called Rupert - she usually isnt too fussed with other dogs but LOVES him LOL

Jacko won't play with a dog that rushes up to him or shows rude behaviour towards me or him, but he will play with any dog that is polite. There is a scruffy little thing occasionally at the park we go to and they are the best of friends. Lovely dog temperament. My dog can be D.A. at times to the point where it is making me antisocial, but this playmate has polite dog behaviour it is really intersting to watch.

It just goes to show that some dogs are far more tolerant than others and some dogs are far more polite than others.

saffron prefers playing with small breeds like my neighbours maltese. she lays flat on the ground next to small dogs and acts like a fool.

,The two Pointers here play great together in the yard or on walks. When there are other days they will say hello but go off on their own... They are social loners. :D

Mine are snobs. They definitely prefer sighthound company... But sighthounds have different play than many other breeds, they do't really like the close contact wrestle play unless they are very closely bonded. Playing with dog friends or aquaintances needs to consist of running games, they don't like their personal space invaded by strangers (maybe a bit like some of us humans?? ;))

my mini schnauzer likes to play with other schnauzers but any really terrier type will do-not JR's though. so there's a welsh terrier, an airedale, a few borders and an irish terrier that sometimes use our park. he loves them all, rumbling and playing chase but he'd choose a schanuzer over anything. he loves all dogs but he kind of stands next to working breeds like labs, GR, borders etc looking at them as if they're mad. especially any dog that plays fetch with a tennis ball he thinks is a bit of an idiot-he retrieves it once and then looks at you when you throw it again like, "i only just brought it back, why'd you throw it again?". mind you he's figured that if he steals their ball some dogs will chase him, which he adores, the little toad.

and he doesn't play with the aussie at our park but he worshipps her. he follows her around as close as he can get, sits next to where she poos until her owner picks it up, generally fawns before her- good thing her owner and i get along well!

My labs have always gravitated towards other labs and goldies - it's like they speak the same language or something. Especially when they were younger and wanted to play. They socialise a bit more maturely these days.

My pointer who looks like this (see photo below) seems to love playing with labs (for obvious reasons) but LOVE ridgebacks and vislas. It's almost as if he knows that they look like him or something? I dunno how - he doesn't have a mirror!

Ever since my youngest staffy was a pup she has had a thing for my sister's husky shephard cross - she idolises her! In her first year we took all our dogs to the Million Paws Walk and at one stage my sister was off with her dog and I had mine sitting on the ground just resting. The young staffy was going crazy trying to get to a group of huskies that were near us. Their owners called over and asked if I was ok and I had to say that I thought she was confusing their dogs with my sister's. My sister and her dog have since moved in with me and my dogs and this staffy is still the same, particularly if we are at a larger doggy event - if she spies a husky with similar wolf colours she is desperate to check them out like they are long lost relatives!

Saxon loves to play with anything Poodle - pure or cross, and any size. If it has poodle in it and does the poodle arms up, boxing / wrestling thing he'll play. He (being a toy poodle x of 4.8kg) has happily played with a young (and BIG) standard poodle x GSD - it was slightly uncoordinated play, with both standing on hind legs, Saxon's arms being about knee height to the other dog, and her arms waving around about a metre over his head, but they both had fun!

He also loves to play with Huskies...

and Beagles...

and Pugs...

and Labs...

and Rotties...

and ACDs and Kelpies...

and he likes small fluffies like Jap Spitzs and Poms, I think he thinks they are a cat like my fluffy Persian x cat Charlie, who he loves to play with.

Oh and he also likes to try and play with Greyhounds, who generally ignore him.

Hmmmm... perhaps he just like to play with anyone! ;)

A lot of rough play happens whenever there is another lab on the scene.

Molly will play with any dog, she just loves to play. Mokha before today I would have said mainly labs,rottweilers, vizlas and ridgebacks. He is not so keen on small dogs to play with. All breeds he had a lot to do with as a pup. He made a new friend out walking today and the match was perfect. Finally another overly enthusiastic canine with a gorgeous personality. It was a 3 year old boxer. Absolutely fantastic dog and Mokha loved him.

MY older labs don't care and don't want to play with other dogs, they are passed all that at their age My pup just LOVES ALLl dogs and plays with any of them irrespective of breed or size My local dog park has a separate area for small dogs, so when we go to this park, I don't have to worry about him getting too rough or over excited with any littlies as they are nextdoor. I prefer him to play with dogs more his size and similar play styles - I just love seeing him play with other labs as there is just such an understanding between them ;)

Same here. Oberon likes running games and enjoys other sighthounds but also really enjoys playing with standard poodles. He likes there bouncy high energy.
