Hope it is OK to post this link - vetshop Australia are offering 1 free sticker per household, which you can stick in a visible [place (eg near the front door), which indicates how many pets might be inside needing rescue in case the house is on fire. link

Probably in the minority, but I'm against this idea

If I'm home and there is a fire or emergency, I'll risk my own life to save my pets without a doubt - however, I would hate for emergency services workers to risk their lives for my pets :champagne: I don't think its fair to ask strangers to do that, as much as we love our pets. Thats just how I feel about it - I'd rather be missing my dog than have someone's family be missing their Dad etc

Im thinking the stickers would be helpful if people had a safe opportunity to rescue the pets, but would like to think a emergency service person would not put their own life in danger, to resuce pets.

^^ I do agree.

I agree. I sincerely hope (and believe) that if the situation were dire, an emergency service person would not put their own life at risk for an animal, and the sticker would be useful to account for animals after the situation has happened, or anything like that, instead.

I already have a similar sticker on my window. No I don't want someone to loose their life saving my pets but should they think I am inside (I'm a shift worker) and try to get me out it would be good for them to be aware they may be confronted by a frightened dog if for no other reason than being aware there is another possible danger.

This might sound paranoid, but couldn't putting a sticker with the number of dogs inside encourage cranky neighbours to complain about your dogs every time a dog barks in the vicinity? Or for teenagers with nothing better to do to try and let the dogs out?

It could OG but they aren't very big, the nuisance people would need to come up to your front door to see it.

I hear on the news a lot about firies going in after pets, so clearly they do it, I have a similar sticker up.

ETA: In fact, in the US many fire trucks now carry special pet oxygen masks. ;)

In theory it sounds like really good, idea but like others have said I wouldn't want anyone to sacrifice their lives to get inside our house,. Different if the pets have somehow managed to get outside and are straying.

I was going get some stickers made up at one stage of our dogs to put on our rubbish bin, but a lot of people said me wouldn't that be promoting to the 'wrong' people that you have dogs (especially if you are not home, and someone tried to steal them)

I worry about it tho heaps, especially after what happened to Jed ;)

When we were in high rise we had a fire audit done once a year, people from some fire safety mob came and checked all our front doors, internal sprinklers etc and had a list of number of residents including pets. I assume the info would be given to the fire dept somehow? ;)

We had two other flats on our level, if they were going to rescue the neighbours and we weren't home I'd imagine if they could safely get our dog they would've.

Wow, I must be in the minority, and please don't  me, but I would like someone to risk their life to save my pets. God forbid it actually happened, and maybe I'm just selfish, but my dogs are almost as important to me as my family.

Yes, I would want somebody attempting to save my pets.

I would trust a trained firefighter with specialised equipment to know whether they should enter a burning home or not. Not up to me to say they cannot take that risk. I know nothing about fires.

I ordered one - have been on the look out for them after seeing a friend's sticker.

I'm with Greytmate - I do not think a trained and experienced firefighter would go back for an animal if it was not safe for them to do so so.

So would I.

Firemen know when they can take calculated risks and when it is just too unsafe to attempt a rescue.

I ordered one too, but will put in on the gate at the back of the driveway not at the front door. If there was a fire at my house they would be accessing the rear of the house through the gate. At least this way I wont be advertising my mobile number to the world - I have a silent number for a reason.

Sorry I didn't mean fire fighters, I was thinking about just random people or neighbours..

Tho I guess if i was faced with that situation, I probably would risk my life for any one's animals too. I just meant I would hate to think just anyone would put themselves in that much danger..

My apologies if my comment came across wrong.. :mad

We are all animal lovers on here, so I guess most of us would take that risk ..

I have evil neighbours.. if they thought my animals were in my house and it was on fire they would probably throw petrol on the fire. NO chance of them risking even a fingernail for an animal.

Oh really Indigirl, that's horrible ! :mad

My neigbours are lovely enough, but one lot are elderly and have health problems, so not sure if they would do anything? and the other one is a single Mum, but she's rarely home . She's got a dog, but we hardly ever hear it !
