redkidsmum
Hi all ..I have a small toy poodle 15mths old .For the last four months she has had a chronic sinus problem ..nasal smell something awfull !!!!!! Put under anaethetic and a exploratory done ..no foreign object seen..sinus infected ?? has been on three different antibiotics ,then a nasal swab done a month ago and staph infection diagnosed ..a different antibiotic given the last moth but still not cleared up. Sneezes less than she used to ..still reverse sneezes but only during activity. Please has anyone had this happen to their dog and did it eventually clear up ?? any suggestions welcome
~Anne~
It happened to my cousins JRT. They live in Western NSW and were eventualy referred to Sydney Uni Vet Hosp. It turned out to be an embedded grass seed.

Thank you for your fast reply Anne..I suspect the same..the vet does not have a fine enough instrument to check high enough ..she is only small ..Did the Uni remove the grass seed or did it just break up eventually ?? OSoSwift
I have seen it from a very small particle from a grass seed which did come out eventually, but too ages to clear up. I have also seen a dog around 3 years of age with an aspergillis infection of the sinuses which did clear up but it took some pretty extreme expensive and drawn out treatment. The only other one I have seen was in our 16 year old dog who was treated for an infection on and off for ages, it was later discovered she has a sinus tumour and she was PTS when it started causeing pain and interferring with her breathing. I would consider referral to a hospital that has the means to investigate it more thoroughly

She is having another exploritory done tomorrow while she is sedated for another procedure
raffikki
My last dog had Nasal Aspergillosis and had pretty much the same symptom you describe....nasty smell, he also had an almost constant drip of snot and sneezed alot. He also snorted frequently, like he was trying to blow something out. The local vet wasn't able to see as far up the nasal cavity as they'd like so referred me to an Oncologist at the Uni vet hospital where a Endoscopy - Rhinoscopy and a CT scan was done, as well as blood tests. The treatment was costly but cleared it up after two attempts. If you can get a referral, to an oncologist, they would certainly be able to do the test required and find the problem
