WreckitWhippet
Tom Couchman was successfull with a motion to the NSW BOD in August, to have a motion put to the ANKC conference in Oct, asking that 18 & 18a be made compulsary for all Champ Shows , held from April 1 2011 onwards. OCT has been and gone, so I guess I need to find out if that was successfull or not.

It was funny, the steward and judge almost forgot about us But some more points for Jedi and happily he didn't get group, so we could go home and take cover in the air conditioning! It was sooooo hot!
Dogs Are Forever
I have been in touch directly with Tom re Motion to the ANKC conference re compulsory Neuter Classes, and unfortunately, the motion was NOT successful. Tom is now Chairman of DogsNSW BOD, so perhaps we might see NSW at least making the classes compulsory. But at the present time, no, not mandatory anywhere. All we can really do is continue to support those shows where the classes ARE offered, and maybe thank the Club running the show for including the classes. I was told today that the next Bulli show will have Neuter Classes.

InspectorRex
it is very disappointing :D They want to retain members and boost no's at shows , well it aint rocket science to figure that if they hold Neuter Ch classes at all shows then members who had retired dogs that had to be desexed would bring them out again
darwinroyal
I disagree with the notion our governing bodies should make 18/18A mandatory. For them it’s a “damned if they do, damned if they don’t” situation. The controls are accused at times of having a Big Brother attitude and over-governing. The Neuter classes are ANKC approved, therefore it is the prerogative of the affiliates to offer the classes. It is the clubs that need to listen to exhibitors and include the classes on schedules. Of course the best change comes from within. Get on board a committee and make the changes if you feel so passionately. ....and yes, it is easy for us to say because the NT has supported Class 18 since its inception, fully embracing and promoting the recent changes. However considering our shows are now attracting less than 100 entries in total we often wonder whether DogsNT is going to survive, but it will not be through lack of trying by the people working hard on committees. As a Show Manager I would probably give up NT Bred or Aust Bred classes before relinquishing the Open Neuter class.

darwinroyal
Meg, not OT at all. In what was a miniscule group in a small show scene you guys have embraced the concept and made not only your Group, but the Class, viable for the whole Show. Your efforts as a small group of like-minded people is fantastic.

FlissPrideaux
On the wekeend my nearly 3 year old champion - who is living in the most wonderful pet home - was shown in the very first neuter shows in the ACT. I was disappointed that more people didnt enter - however I did hear that a couple of the groups had quite a few in, which is excellent!! the excitment that Enzo's pet owners felt as he took out the very first Neuter in Show award was quite conatgeous!!!! They are now going to come out to shows just to help - even if Enzo isnt entered. Im a big support of the event - it could get more people back showing, and that is something we desperately need. JMHO Congratulations Fliss! I think Neuter CH its a good starting point for pet dog owners with nice dogs and have always advocated being able to work towards a title. I hope it will encourage more breeders to put a few more out there on Main Register.
TerraNik
Congratulations! I am really disappointed I didn't get to go to those shows. I was entered, but personal circumstances prohibited me from going. Next year
Eridor
I also entered the ACT Neuter classes, there were 8 or 9 in the working dog group. My beautiful 5 yr old recently desexed girl won the group at 2 of the 3 shows. So proud of my Sway and so pleased to see the support from the working dog group, lets make the next one bigger and better
