glasshutch
Hi ACT DOLs Just wondering if any Canberra / Queanbeyan vets have a specialty in opthalmology? We were intending to have our aging rescue dog's cataracts eventually removed at SASH in Sydney, but are facing a fairly sudden move to the ACT in the next month. If anyone knows whether there's a permanent or visiting specialist who operates anywhere in the area, I'd appreciate the information. Cheers
Sheridan
Give your vet a ring. There is a visiting veterinary opthamologist who visits Canberra once a month but he goes to different clinics each time. Your vet should have the schedule, if not give West Queanbeyan a ring. They should also know.
glasshutch
Thanks for the info Sheridan. We don't have a local vet yet as we're still in Sydney; but once we get down there I'll call around (or if anyone can recommend a good vet in the northern part of Tuggeranong that would be great). FionaC
I can highly HIGHLY recommend the vets from ARH - specifically Cameron Whitiker - he seems to be the one that does most of the travelling - we live in Newcastle and he does the trip up here once a month too ... he is based at ARH and I have nothing but good things to say about them and their treatment! glasshutch
perriannath - is that because SASH operate out of their own facility or because you think the vets there are better? Thanks Fiona - they must be busy with such a wide territory to cover.
Sheridan
Regarding a vet in Canberra, I can highly recommend Hamish Cameron at West Queanbeyan. It's only a short distance away from Tuggeranong.
FionaC
Thanks Fiona - they must be busy with such a wide territory to cover. I don't know what their travel schedule is like - they come to Newcastle once a month (he does at day at our vet's practice) but we had to travel to Sydney for the laser treatment and the recent checkups .... but its only a couple of hours so nothing too difficult .... As I said I can't speak highly enough of them and their skill.... I have a 7mth old pup who has come through treatment for an Iris Melanoma - we were given a 50% chance of saving his eye and some recommended the removal of the eye due to the aggressiveness of the tumor - we got the all clear last Friday at his most recent checkup - Cameron not only removed the tumor but also saved his sight ... apparently its incredible rare for a dog so young to have an Iris Melanoma - guess my boy likes being unique lol
