RubyStar
I haven't read the whole thread, apologies But can anyone please recommend a good tug toy to entice a dog to tug? Like a rabbit fur one or something? I would like to try something like that before trying the food pouch tugs. Thanks!
RubyStar
I was set the challenge (thanks Caffy :D ) of training my foody dog to tug in the presence of food. Big deal for him as he looooves food and will turn his nose up at any toy when treats are on offer. I took up the challenge and decided to shape it. Fairly clinical with no cheer-leading other than genuine praise when he gave me the behaviour I wanted. Sniff the tug..."yes" treat. (clicker was too awkward in this situation) mouth on the tug...."yes" treat. Then go for duration. Build it to a full on tug. The big test was to tug for breakfast. He wanted to bail but I am a bit bloody minded and insisted on the tug until I gave the release for brekky. That was a real breakthrough This started about 10 days ago and I now have a full on tug with food in view. Loooovvveee shaping!!!!!!!! This is what I started with Millie a while ago, shaping to tug as she doesn't naturally take things in her mouth (besides food!) so I need to get back to it as I quit before getting too far I'd like a nice enticing tuggy though to start with as I think this is going to be a long challenge! RubyStar
Dman tugs is where I checked first, everything says sold out or coming soon But I think sas mentioned something about taking a holiday from making them for a while last time her bunny fur tugs came up in convo? I could be wrong though I checked Rush to Tug, hers look good but wondering how effective the fluff in it would be. The bunny fur in dman ones is what I was after. Looking at Clean Run now, but so far all their tuggies look small.

Tassie
I've made some nice soft tuggies by getting some faux fur (expensive, but I got some remnant bits cheaper at Spotlight.) I used a 4 strand plaiting 'recipe' I found here. I plaited the strands fairly loosely, and left 3 or 4 inches loose at each end, after having tied knotes in the end of the braid. They're great tugs for puppies (soft and comfortable, and less likely to pull teeth), but the adult dogs really like them too. Just noticed there is a 6 strand pattern on the same website here. Might try that some time when I get some time.

RubyStar
Maybe try a soft leather tug, RS? I'm thinking of getting one for Daisy. Where do you get them from? I never thought of leather as being a tug toy, how soft is it? Millie has a bit of a tender mouth, very picky with what she puts in there from out of my hand unless it's edible of course, so a soft furry tug I thought would be ideal. But I'm open to the idea of a leather one if I know what they're like!
Tiggy
RS K9 Pro have the leather tugs. The Dman tugs I got are pocket size ones for obedience only $6 each and I got three freebie tugs to . They make longer thicker ones to and they're always a good price.
ness
RubyStar - I have 2 of Steve's (K9Pros) rolled leather tugs - one soft and one firm. http://www.k9pro.com.au/products.php?produ...led-Leather-Tug If you have ever seen a rolled leather seekback article they are essentially the same softness as that but on a larger scale. Kenz loves them and they are her main training toy these days. They go pretty slimy though after a session so I end up tossing them in front of a heater to dry before we do our next session :D . kelpiechick
The bunny style tugs Clean Run stock are also available in Australia here Think she has them in stock at the moment as she always has toys on display at trials in Melbourne. Plus Air Dogs stock them as well.
