OSoSwift
I was wondering if anyone knew what the actual theraputic dose of glucosamine is? I have seen that Fish oil is 1000mg per 10kgs bodyweight, which is doubled if they have skin or joint issues. I am after this sort of dose rate for Glucosamine please. corvus
I'm sure our vet wrote that down for us somewhere... If I remember correctly, we were giving Penny half a tablet, although she only needed about a third. It's hard to cut a tablet into threes. She was about 10kg. I'll have a look around and see if I can find the dosage the vet recommended.
OSoSwift
That would be great thanks. A friend has a little dog that has the beginnings of arthritis in his carpus and was wanting to start him on Glucosamine and fish oil.
Dagmar
That would be great thanks. A friend has a little dog that has the beginnings of arthritis in his carpus and was wanting to start him on Glucosamine and fish oil. Glucosamine and fish oil alone will not be enough. Fish oil is good, but Glucosamine should be combined with Chondroitin and MSM. Vit C and E may also be beneficial. All doses go by body weight, the Glucosamine Hydrochloride dose would be 125mg per 10lbs of body weight daily. Dagmar
OSoSwift
Thank you for that I will let her know. That is essentially what I am doing for my old boy, but use Ester C and have just been using plain Glucosamine. I am due to buy some more though so will get the Glucosmine with MSM and chondroitin. Yes, I am also using Ester Vit C, sorry forgot to mention. Let me know, if you needed the VitC/E dosage as well.
OSoSwift
Would love it a I am not 100% sure, Thanks also the dose of Vit E would be much appreciated. I am going by the dose rate on the White E I have, but an exact dose would be very helpful. Edited June 21, 2010 by Rommi n Lewis
Staff'n'Toller
We looked it up the other day - I think it was 22-44mg/kg - so 22 is the low dose. I agree the extra Chondroitin/MSM/Vitamin E makes a difference - which is the Joint Guard formula. Edited June 21, 2010 by Staff'n'Toller

The dosage for Vit C (ester) is 100mg for 10lbs of body weight once daily and the dosage for Vit E is 100 IU per 10 lbs of body weight once daily. Mas1981
I had little success with Glucosamine and chondroitin with an old horse I had but the MSM worked really well for him
Dagmar
I had little success with Glucosamine and chondroitin with an old horse I had but the MSM worked really well for him I have not tried it on horses yet, but thanks for sharing, good to know. I noticed that the Glucosamine by itself did not do very much, but in combination with chondroitin and MSM it really works well.
