TV Sunday Night just had an amazing story on this new drug EBC46 found in the rain forest in QLD and being trialled for cancer treatments on dogs and cats with some amazing results as follows:

  • A 13 yr old German Shepherd with mammary cancer given weeks to live had EBC46 injected into the tumours in January and they have shrunk dramatically and 5mths later is doing very well :)
  • A Husky with large tumours on his bum had EBC46 injected into the tumours and when they checked a week later, tumours had already shrunk noticeably :)
  • A Cat with cancer of the ear also had a gel containing EBC46 rubbed into the tumours on his ear and a week later tumours had shrunk by over 50% and  part of tumour was already falling away :cheer:
  • A SWF had a tumour on the back of his back leg and his tumour was also injected and a week later tumour had shrunk noticeably :cheer:

EBC46 will be on the vet shelves in months – shrunk tumours by over 50% in first application :cheer: They will begin trialling on humans next year. This drug could be revolutionary and is fantastic that it will be available to Vets in months :D I will following this story with much interest :(

I registered my dog for this trial last year, I sent in reports from several vets, x-rays etc etc and wrote a long application letter - I was desperate to save my beautiful boy. But they never got back to me - and in the meantime he died. I still havent heard a word back despite several requests for some sort of response. I figure they didn't want to deal with non-mainland dogs but they could have let me know one way or the other. I was always hoping....... there's nothing worse.

I REALLY hope this results in some fantastic stuff happening for animals and people alike and it's great to hear about the help it gave other dogs. But I can't help feeling a little sad and bitter that they didn't even bother to let me know what was going on with my application while I spent thousands of dollars desperately hoping/trying to save him and watched my poor gorgeous guy pass away.

I watched the show tonight with very mixed feelings.

I can understand your sadness and mixed feelings :) and it is inexcusable that they didn't even have the courtesy to reply to your application knowing full well you were going thru probably one of the most stressful and worst times of your life :cheer: This is the first I had heard of this drug and I also lost my beautiful lab boy to Cancer (Hemangiosarcoma) last year and the chemo only brought him an extra few months. :) and I was absolutely devastated losing my beautiful boy :cheer: so was very interested to hear about this drug as it has such great potential to save so many pets and prevent their owners going thru what we have in losing our beautiful boys :cheer:

Sorry to hear about your boy too labsrule - it just breaks your heart doesn't it. I must admit I'm still not over it and feel guilty I couldn't save him. It's such an emotional minefield (and I can't imagine how parents feel when it's their child involved!!)

I wouldn't wish it on any person, dog or loving owner.

Dr Jack Ayerbe, the vet on Melbourne's 3aw Radio has been speaking about this. He mentioned it last year as well. Shame he is the vet for that horrible pet shop chain.

I hope this will help lots of dogs in the future.

So sorry Spottychick and Labsrule for your loses. :) Very sad to lose any of our loved pets or people to this awful disease.

It sounds hopeful, but sadly not successful on all dogs in the trial. The dog of a friend of mine died, the treatment never worked on him.

Good that the treatment will be available in vet clinics later this year. This moved quickly.Sometimes all these trials take years to get onto the market.

I've heard that they intend to start a trial on humans soon as they hope this will be a big breakthrough for cancerous tumours in people.

Having known many women who have gone through the "cure is worse than the disease" treatment of Chemo for Breast Cancer, this sounds like a kinder treatment option?? Let's hope.

It has been available and trialed with specialist vets for the past 12 months +. While it is exciting news it is sobering to note that it only works with certain types of cancers, in certain positions in/on the body and even then is not consistent.

So sorry for your loses - it is an awful disease to see anyone or anypet go through, your babies are at peace now.

I saw it on one of the news programs. They showed a lab that had cancer - before and after treatment with this new drug - OMG - amazing.:laugh: The cancer had dissapeared. I wish I'd seen the other show with the husky and other dogs.
