PossumCorner
Is anyone going? It is a good day. Point and shoot cameras welcome, it's social not heavy. But there is a competition if anyone wants to enter, not compulsory. To find one near you the website www.worldwidephotowalk.com has the info. Button for "first visit" explains it. And links to the nearest walk to you, with details of how many places left, where it goes, coffee afterwards, all that. Only one walk listed in Melbourne so far, one in Geelong, one I think in Hobart. No charge, just order a t-shirt for charity if you like. You need to register on-line for a place. Quite a few Red Bubble people are joining in.

helen
copied from website "Just like last year Towner Jones Photography is helping us sell t-shirts to raise money for the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya. 100% of the profits from the sale of these t-shirts will go to feeding and care for these great kids. helen
Anyone else go? I went along with a friend and knew a couple of others in our group, we all had great fun. One of the ladies had people asking her to take their photos (nice change) and me and my friend had people asking us if we wanted a photo together LOL, probably thought we were all tourists - some of our group's photos are here http://www.flickr.com/groups/skphotowalk2010-geelong/ Edited July 25, 2010 by helen
PossumCorner
Anyone else go? .... So fun - met lots of people at the Carlton walk, and fine weather, fairly overcast, but good light. I took the advice I'd mentioned of just taking a point-shoot, no tripod, nuffink. For a while I felt as if both hands were cut off, but it was really liberating. And I couldn't believe what some people somehow carried, every body, lens and bag they owned: it was a real show-and-tell. There are just a few shots on Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/groups/1489280@N23/pool/ I'm not on flickr so nothing there. It was good over a pizza and coffee to look at others' results. It was interesting that there was so much interest from people who stopped to ask what was going on. And jaws dropping: "What, there are Camera Clubs!! Can anyone join, do you have to pass an exam first, how do I.....". So that was one outcome, some PR for clubs and taking the mystique out of it. Now for a better look at the Geelong shots, thanks Helen.
