nicolatu
Hi guys my puppy started teething a few days ago. Today, we found that he have 2 adult teeth growing behind his teeth. Should I be concern with this? I attached a picture below.
GoldenGirl85
The puppy teeth should fall out as the adult teeth grow through
nicolatu
Thanks. I was just worried because this is a weird situation. I thought they lose a tooth before growing a new one. He lost the other teeth before growing new ones.
aussielover
Sometimes they don't fall out. This is usually more in smaller breed dogs especially the malti-shit, shit poo or whatever you call them etc , type dogs. Its not a big deal anyway, when you have your dog desexed then the vet can remove them pretty easily at the same time.
nicolatu
Thanks for that! I am just worried about him. I am still thinking whether to desex him before 6 months or not. There is a BC breeder who told me to desex him later if he is not a brat. Male BC needs their male hormones to help grow better.
Sandra777
They don't necessarily lose the milk tooth before getting the adult one, and with only the tips showing like they appear in the photo I wouldn't be concerned as yet. Give him some bones to munch on and help move those baby teeth along and just keep and eye on it.
matilda1
retained puppy teeth are quite common. No big deal. As mentioned above, usually the vet will extract them at time of desexing if they're still there.
nicolatu
Thanks for the replies. I have been opening up his mouth everyday to look at his teeth. He hates me when I touch his mouth now

Feed him some nice raw bones and that should help the teeth. My boy had that for a while but the teeth eventually fell out.
Niques
Thanks for the replies. I have been opening up his mouth everyday to look at his teeth. He hates me when I touch his mouth now Hah, you're doing better than me - I didn't even notice J.'s little front teeth come through. And I only just realised today that he lacks both canines on one side of his mouth I wish his other top canine would fall out. My philosophy has thus far been to just leave him to it unless things start looking/smelling funny in there and if he's doing more than the odd screeching about it, ie. having trouble eating/long-term pain. He hates me when I touch his mouth now You should be getting him used to having his mouth checked anyway, reward him every time you open his mouth, it will make it easier for the vet to examine him when he is fully grown
LoTTy
This question seems to pop up alot I just went through this adult teeth issue with my Mini Schnauzer ... at 10 months i could see he still had two of his canine teeth and his adult teeth had come through. So I asked my vet and he told me they had to come out before they cause to much damage .. Seeing has those my pooch has already been desexed he had to be put under again and he ended up having to have 8 of his baby teeth pulled out ... So glad I didn't wait any longer ... *Lisa*
